Main Draw is out and Robbo has drawn Buyukakcay of Turkey in the first round. A tricky opener but it could have been worse and Laura's section of the draw doesn't contain the major favourites for the title. Impossible to know what to expect from Laura over the next few weeks as she is bound to be ring rusty having not played a tournament for six months and of course her coaching setup has changed. Also coming back from injury is never easy initially. I would be very confident of her beating this girl in normal circumstances but I think its just a matter of keeping fingers crossed at this stage. Six months ago Laura was ranked 189 or thereabouts and Heather was outside the top 200, what a difference six months makes. The doubles draw is also out and I'm quite surprised not to see Laura on that given you would have thought the need to get as many matches as possible under her belt. Emmers has stuck around and is playing doubles. Finally no idea how to get hold of an OOP so don't know whether Laura will be playing tomorrow or Wednesday.
With one match still to be played it looks like Laura's not playing until tomorrow. Bet 365 covered 2 matches last night so there is an outside chance hers may be covered overnight tonight.
Robbo grabs comeback win 6-3 6-4 and will play Dayamanti a qualifier in the second round tomorrow. Could have been tricky so nice to see her win in straight sets.

You beat me to that Phil - was just composing a post
Great news eh? And quite a relief after last nights' shenanigans.
You'll just have to be quicker next time ;)) JC. But yes great news after such a long layoff to get a reasonably comfortable win. Just had a look at her next opponents form and it hasn't been great up to this tournament, but she has been impressive through qualifying and the first round, so could be more tricky than at first glance.

For a first match back, that was a real test for Laura so it's great to see her come through it so convincingly Ayu-Fani Damayanti WR 467 (though I love philwrig's inadvertent characterisation of her as a piece of costume jewellery LOL) has been as high as 275 and she beat Buryachok WR 280 3 & 2 in the FQR here, so she won't be a pushover either. She also thrashed Emily 1 & 1 in Indonesia a couple of years ago and took a set off Elena in 2007.

Laura lost 3-6 6-1 7-6(5). So a bit of a disappointment after the encouraging scoreline yesterday. The girl she played was on a very hot run of form this week so some comfort in that.
Ouch - after she won yesterday, I didn't think she'd lose today!, even given my reasons for saying Damayanti wouldn't be a pushover a few posts back.
The Indonesian has now won 11 of her 12 matches this year and had already won 4 matches here in straight sets for the loss of just 18 games, i.e. just over 2 per set.
It looks like Laura's fortunes waned as the match went on, perhaps not surprising if she's not fully match fit yet.
