Boys & Girls: Riaan Venter Junior ITF, South Africa - Grade 2 (Week 10)

The second Grade 2 sees all our 3 girls face strong opponents - Katy Dunne's opponent has won 2 titles this year, whilst Laura Deigman plays last week's winner. I don't think Jessica Ren has ever beaten anyone in the top 100, so will have to break that duck to progress - but judging by her recent record her South African opponent presents a good opportunity to do that.

Boys R1 (L32)

Joshua Page (GBR) v Moos Sporken NED)
Or Ram-Harel (ISR) v Sam Hutt (GBR)
(5) Jonas Merckx (BEL) v Jathan Malik (GBR)
Matthew Rossouw (RSA) v (Q) Myles Orton (GBR)

Girls R1 (L32)

Corina Jaeger (SUI) v (7) Katy Dunne (GBR)
(4) Natasha Fourouclas (RSA) v Jessica Ren (GBR)
Laura Deigman (GBR) v (3) Donna Vekic (CRO)

SF

(1) Zarah Razafimahatratra (MAD) v Jessica Ren (GBR)

Jess is not without hope of an upset here. The world no. 25, a narrow winner of the Madagascan players 'most As in surname competition ' (the others only have 5), owes her ranking mainly to some weakish African tournaments, though she does have a win over Caroline Garcia, one of the top 1993 girls.

Doubles SF

(1) Fabikova/Ren (CZE/GBR) v (4) Dunne/Rey (GBR/SUI)

Jess lost in the singles, but won in the doubles.

Sounds like a sore one tho

Much better from Jess this week, definitely taken a step forward. Now the difficult part to sustain this level of form into her next several tournaments.
