Week 7 - Futures F1 ($15k) - Zagreb, Croatia

L32: (1) James Ward WR 209 v Qualifier
L32: Josh Goodall WR 431 v (WC) Mate Pavic (CRO) WR 1444
L32: Josh Milton WR 353 v (6) Marcel Zimmermann (GER) WR 339

Unfortunately, the winners of the last two matches play each other in R2 and they are both in the top quarter with Wardy. However, given the closeness of rankings and Milton's recent form, you could argue that increases our chances of getting a semi-finalist. Lejnieks (LTA) WR 369 is the only other top 400 player in the quarter.

Ward will draw Basic in R1 and lose. George Morgan beat Pavic at AO juniors didn't he?

Even if Ward does draw Basic i'm pretty confident he'll beat him.

Good draw tho, pity we can only have one semi-finalist

I'd be fairly confident that James will beat whichever qualifier he faces, including Basic.

As to Pavic, wrong one Mate  wink

George beat another Croatian 17yo, Mate Delic, in the L16 of the AO Juniors.

What is it about being drawn in the same quarter?

Doubles draw:

L16: 1 GOODALL, Josh (GBR) & WARD, James (GBR) v MILTON, Joshua (GBR) & VAN TERHEIJDEN, Tim (NED)

Sancic was once ranked as high as 362, and must have got used to the courts having played three rounds of qualifying, but still a bizarre result. As last week, the shadow of DC seems to loom large ... but then again, if any Brit could be said to have avoided the 'curse' of DC in recent years, it's James!

A very, very disappointing result, but I can't help wondering whether there's another explanation:  Dino & Goody were the top seeds in the doubles, but

R1:  (ALT) Nils Langer & Franjo Raspudic (GER/BIH) WR 1854 lost to Josh Milton & Tim van Terheijden (NED) WR 1271 by 1 & 1 smile

Could James have been carrying an injury?

Darn my ( not unreasonable ) confidence misplaced. Very disappointing result for James.

And although it would at least mitigate the result a bit, I do hope he doesn't have any significant injury !

or jetlag - didn't he get back from hot Oz on Saturday and fly to cold Croatia on Sunday. Can't be easy to adjust so quickly.
