Well, Brugues-Davi was ranked as high as 218 last May and won France F2 last week, so he is on an 8-match winning streak in which he has lost just one set (in last week's Final) but he did lose to both Burnham Arlidge and Dan Smethurst last year, albeit on grass, which I imagine is not his favourite surface.

Looking a bit at Brugues' ATP info let's just say this one is a toughee !!
For a start the guy is probably quite a bit underrranked. He is a 25 yo who missed the second half of last year, not competing after the end of June when he was WR 228, having achieved his CH of 218 a few weeks earlier. He has had other big spells out earlier in his career.
This year he reached the Australian Open FQR, beating WR 147 ( Kudryatvtsev RUS ) and WR 246 before losing to WR 288 ( Stadler GER ). Just last week as 8th seed he won France F2 10K + H.
You never really know with a young players starting to break through, but...
Wouldn't you just know it? Brugues is the only seed left in the bloody draw, Jonathan Dasnières de Veigy (2) & Fabrice Martin (4) having both contrived to lose their respective QFs today!

GEMs, you just can't trust them!
