RE: Week 6 Futures - France F3 ($10k+H) - Bressuire (Hard)

Excellent Liam!

Jiri SKOLOUDIK (WR:598) in the Quarter-Finals.

Skoloudik beat top seed, Desein, in R1.

I thought I was seeing double, so to speak, from yesterday, Hoss, but no, just the same score wink :

SF:  (3) Kevin Botti & Simon Cauvard (FRA/FRA) WR 1615 lost to (2) David Rice & Sean Thornley WR 1030 by 2 & 2 smile

The top seeds, Desein & Juska (BEL/LAT), or two unknown Frogs, Medy Chettar & Valentin Nourrissat, who had a walkover in the first round, lie in wait in the final.  pray.gif

Back from a business trip, which produced lots of work - a good thing, but it's going to take me a while to catch up with what's been going on here over the last few days, so just a few quick comments to be going on with ...

Clicking on the links on the men's top 25 table so that I could update it, I was treated to a bit of a horror show - 4 of the GB top 8 seeded, all out in R1 ... 7 of the GB top 16 in total in main draws, won 1 match lost 7, all to lower-ranked players. Are they all trying to avoid the 'curse' of being picked for DC?

Well done whoever spotted Morgan Phillips in CdS ATP qualies - a very decent attempt he made there too! smile.gif

Liam's progress this week is hugely encouraging though, and although it's his best week yet, there have been enough other good performances from him recently (judging by the scorelines anyway) to make it clear it isn't a flash in the pan.

He's just joined twitter btw - http://twitter.com/Liambroady/ - you can still become one of his first ten followers, but I imagine you'll have to get in quick - not least because I just mentioned it to the 300+ GB tennis fans who follow @gbtennis. LOL

Doubles final:

(WC) Medy Chettar & Valentin Nourrissat (FRA/FRA) WR 1281+ vs (2) David Rice & Sean Thornley WR 1030

David & Sean are going to have to watch it:  not content with despatching the fourth seeds by 4 & 5 yesterday, the WCs saw off the top seeds today by 3-6 6-3 [10-7]! disbelief

To put it mildly.  Generally horrendous for the men this week   disbelief.gif

But the one silver lining at least is a really very significant silver lining.

I've lagged in 18th I think it was in the Liam follow stakes but hey I only just read that he was on twitter.

What a week this is turning out to be for Liam - obviously a huge chance to reach his first Futures semi (it was his third QF) given that he was facing an unseeded opponent, but you still have to take those chances. Good to see the other Brits in Bressuire clearly getting behind him too smile.gif

Liam has now more than doubled his ATP ranking points at the start of the week (from 7 to 15, with 8 points for a 10K+H semi) and he will be GB no. 19 (and very likely in the ATP top 800) on Monday week. smile.gif

No stopping Liam this week.
Assuming the ranking points are 18 10 6 2 1 for this level of futures, does this mean he has accrued 6 points so far this week ? The reason I ask is that Steven has just said on twitter that Liam has more than doubled his previous ranking points total of 7 with his performances this week.
