R32: James Ward WR 215 v Philip Bester (CAN) WR 270
Not a bad draw at all for James. Bester is at a CH at the minute and will likely go up a little further on Monday as he reached the R16 of Burnie last week (beating top seed Matosevic in 3 before going down to the eventual champion, Cipolla, in straight sets). The two have never met but Bester did lose to Goodall in 3 sets last April. Hopefully James will continue his Burnie form here.
However as I raised at the end of the Burnie thread, if Wardy is to make real progress up the rankings, he will have to on occasions push past Challenger QFs to the later stages where the really more significant points are to be earned.

Deffo agree, but i think hes got it in him, hes capable of producing form from anywhere, like the challanger he won and then the grass season ocasions like last year and the time against safin! ha
We are all disappointed for him. He seems to be our only challenger level player at the moment. I think continued hard work will bring him some good fortune at some point.
What are his plans now? When does he next play in the UK? I'd like to go and watch....
He is supposed to be in Croatia next week which seems a little unlikely. He will be in UK for Davis Cup in Feb and pretty sure he will play Bath in March
