Didnt serve as well as his last match i would say- percentage wise (saying that, probably hit around 20-25 aces), but you forget how extremely good his volleys and reactions are at the net and i think they saved him at times in the match

Reminded me a bit of his match with Wardy in the DC playoffs, in the end, was out rallied by the better groundstrokes from the back, but behind serve he is so solid at just winning points quickly!

Great result smile.gif - (2) Walter or (7) Mertl in the Final, currently 1 set all.

It will be Mertl (7) and having looked at his recent performances, he is on form!!

Took both Czech futures at the end of last year.
This year made semis of Germany F1 won F2 and now in final of F3 of course, so doing well.

Chris will have to do play well it seems, although encouragingly, Walter plays a similar game to Eaton, had some success in 2nd set but wasnt able to take the match.

FI: Chris Eaton WR 527 v (7) Jan Mertl (CZE) WR 410 (CH 163 in 2007)

As spud says, Mertl has had a great run recently - he has actually won 22 of his last 23 matches, starting with the event he won late last year beating Dan Smethurst in 3 sets in the Final.

However, Chris has played him twice before and won both times ... just! He beat him 7-6(4) 2-6 7-5 on carpet in Tyumen (Russia F2) and 6-7(2) 6-1 7-6(4) in R1 of the Jersey Challenger, both in 2008, the year he (Chris) reached R2 at Wimbledon.

Doubles final:

(3) Kevin Krawietz & Marcel Zimmermann (GER/GER) WR 777 vs Chris Eaton & Alex Slabinsky WR 892

First set down the pan by 3-6 (two service breaks). hmm Chris tiring or simply that the third seeds are the better pair?
