RE: Week 4 - ITF ($25K) - Grenoble, France Hard

Superb, sorry her opponent had to retire, but it's a semi-final place never the less

Stephanie Foretz Gacon: WR 155 (CH62 way back in feb 2003)

Good to know there are some players out there older than me!

Where will this put her in the rankings?

Around 270, up about 20-25 but still some way off her career high of 231.

The Broadster beats Gacon 6-3 7-6 to give herself 34 ranking points and a final place.

Completely dominant on serve again, winning 85% of first serve points, including 13 aces.

F: : BROADY, Naomi (GBR) Q 293 v DOMACHOWSKA, Marta (POL) Q 297

Marta was top 50 5 years ago, but her ranking collapsed last year after 10 successive losses early on

Make that 35 points, after coming through qualifying. It would be great to make it 51 points though.

I wonder how often a final is contested by 2 qualifiers?

Both Naomi and Marta are due to be playing at Sutton, with them both high on the qualifying list. With qualifying starting on Monday, it's very unlikely that there will be any SEs, so hopefully both will make the main draw. Otherwise, it's going to be a struggle to get to Sutton for qualifying.

The old Eurostar may have to come into play

Tough final matchup, and yes a bonus 1pt for qualifying.

There are only 17 names on the main draw entry list for Sutton so both of them should be promoted from qualifying to main draw, being 2nd & 3rd. No need to worry about special exempts as there are no other tournaments this week except 10K events.

Shame but still a super tournament for her.

Comfortably beaten today (71 points to 49 with 1 breakpoint to 7) but arguably the best tournament of her career, if you compare the overall strength to Puebla (which she won)
