That's not a good looking result, being unstrung by a guy who plays almost exclusively on clay and has little to really recommend him from his hard court results.
Really hope James can pick his level up again and pretty soon.
Very disappointing start to this season for James, get the sense from his Twitter that practice is going well but it just doesn't seem to be translating on the match court. 0-4 so far and aside from the match against Mayer in Sydney they have been pretty friendly draws on paper. The good news is that he hasn't got much to defend at the moment but still frustrating as if the James Ward of the second half of 2010 was showing up he would probably be moving up the rankings instead of stagnating. Still, I think staying in Australia to play a couple of challengers is a good idea and one would hope he will be able to find some form and turn this season around. Still early days of course!
Horrible loss for Ward, he really needs to buck up his ideas soon if he wants to be a constant top 200 player. I feel he must reach at least a semi-final in his next two events to salvage what has been a horrible start, if he loses 5 straight losses is unthinkable for a player of his calibre.
Poor Wardy - 4 R1 losses this month, repeatedly rejected by Anne K and now accused of being Sid the Sexist by Katie LOL
He tweeted something (since deleted) about being sad about Justine's retirement because she was one of the 'only ones' he could watch, and got back from KOB: "@JamesWardtennis Was that a jibe against womens tennis you just made?! Are you from the same school of thought as Gray and Keys or what??"
