Wow, I'm pretty impressed with the responses to my last post. I was only writing on the point of view that Emily wants to reach her full potential and highest ranking, and at 26, playing in these kind of events isn't necessarily as productive as others. As far as I'm aware, She hasn't won a 10K event, which we hold several of in the UK each year. Maybe starting there would be better for EWS.
I completely take the point on board that its her life and she can play in any event she choose to. As someone who grew up in Bristol at the same time she did, I have nothing but respect for her dedication to tennis.

Last time I checked, these kinds of sites were about starting discussions, debating points of view and general interest in British Tennis.

I have always thought the site is great since I starting logging on 4/5 years ago, but maybe some users need to remember that we are all allowed to air our opinions without a few high and mighty pretentious people jumping down our necks because they feel they are the chosen few who know everything about British Tennis.
It seems a growing trend on this site that whenever anyone risks giving an opinion which is even slightly negative towards a British player, the same few users get on their high horses and attack them for it.

Maybe the chosen few should remember that these sites are about sharing information, results AND OPINIONS (good and bad) which is all supposed to be fun! It wouldn't be much of a discussion board if it was just you few.

(rant over!)

If you're all for free and fair debate, you have to be prepared to have your opinion challenged if you do say something that people don't agree with.

You weren't really attacked to be fair.

confuse

tennisfan84, you contributed your clear views on a very interesting discussion point and it has been discussed in some detail, maybe a bit bluntly by one or two but to my mind in no way out of order.

As you say :  "Last time I checked, these kinds of sites were about starting discussions, debating points of view and general interest in British Tennis."

Thank you for the OP, confused about the latest.

I was myself rather surprised that folk earlier even made a point of nothing / bad insulting being said, because I just thought it was so not an issue.

It's just debate, which is what you seek, and can invigorate a board.  But at the same time this is not even remotely in line with genuinely insulting stuff found in some places and which I do not like.

Please just carry on giving your views and just "fight" back at times if you don't agree.

I'm all for sharing opinions, and wasn't offended by yours - I didn't take it as a personalised attack on Em (you have to understand that sometimes people come on here and the GB Tennis Girls message board just to repeatedly slate specific players which is less productive).

As for sharing information, Emily has won 2 10K events I believe, and reached the final of a few others, so playing a 25K at home or abroad is the right move in my book.

So much for supposedly 'easy' points ... cry.gif

Though I suppose for a player with Emily's current ranking, 14 points for a 25K QF are not to be sneezed at.

To be fair Saisai Zheng is a top 10 junior so was a tougher prospect than her ranking suggests... and she took out Nicole Clerico by a similar scoreline in the previous round... but still I was hoping for Em to take a set if not win cry.gif
