RE: Weeks 3/4 - Australian Open Doubles

Tweet from Colin Fleming:

"Thought I'd beaten back injury I started year with but it flared up again getting out of a car 2nite. So annoying, just wanna be healthy!"

Doesn't sound too good

Quick question for those much wiser than I - why don't we enter the mixed doubles at Grand Slams other than Wimbledon? Does seem strange that Sarah and Ken didn't enter given they have both played together already and have already made the expensive and long trip down under. It would also have been good doubles practice for Heather for Fed Cup duties.

I also wonder whether Colin and Joss could've got a wildcard had they asked.

Simple logic says they are not ranked high enough.

They are 128 men and 128 women that take part in the main doubles at every Slam.

Only 32 men and 32 women can compete in the mixed doubles.

Jamie Murray and Ross Hutchins always entered the mixed when they were ranked high enough (Jamie reaching the final at the US Open).

Ah ok, thanks! I didn't realise that Jamie had reached the US Open mixed finals. Who was his partner that year?

We did have a representative in the mixed doubles. Jamie and partner got in very late as alternates but lost in R1 (from Judy's blog)

Sofia Arvidsson SWE/Philipp Petzschner GER d. Alicja Rosolska POL/Jamie Murray 63 63

edit - Apologies Wolf - didn't look back at page 1 and spot that you'd already posted this.  Put it down to too many late nights.  Might finally get some sleep tonight though.
