"Boggo saves break point to avoid losing 8th straight game. 1-all in final set."

Smethurst undone by the dreaded quadruple fault from 40-30, then inside-out forehand wide. Boggo gets the break 2-1.

Quadrulpe!!!?

or does he mean 4 missed serves in a row for 2 DF's?
either way sounds like boggo just got a free lifeline

From reading reports and updates it sounds like Smethursts serve is his biggest achille's heel.

looks like boggo played it well, rode the 'smethy storm' in the middle and was ready to just take the chance at the end.

Congrats to the Bogster, very impressed that he weathered the storm and still came through to win. Sounds like a high quality match for a Futures Final despite the WTA-like scoreline.

Boggo is now 11/12 v fellow Brits (in matches that are recorded on ITF anyway) since he lost to Bloomers in the Surbiton Challenger in 2007, the loss since then being the one to Evo in Jersey 2 years ago of course.

After the LTA corrected this, I had to read the original a couple of times before suddenly realising what was wrong with it:

"Alex Bogdanovic has defeated Alex Ward in the final of the ITF $10k in Tamarac, USA, beating fellow Brit Dan Smethurst 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 to win!"

biggrin

Yes, definitely. I've just had a chance to read through his report on the semis properly, at http://challengertennis.wordpress.com/2011/01/23/tamarac-usa-f2-semifinals-%e2%80%93-now-with-ballkids/, and it's well worth it - full of info and funny too. smile.gif

"You know, one of the best things about reporting on tennis over other sports is a lot of players will help you along with some brutally candid self-analysis as they go. Certainly makes my job easier. Of course, Boggo uttered nary a insightful word the entire match, the cad. Now, some might say that its smart not to tip your opponent as to your every innermost thought, but me? I just think its selfish."

That's the Bogman! LOL

They came from Mexico and England to play in this? I wouldnt come from Cleveland! Only $1300 to win the tournament? Good thing I went into law and not tennis!

Ah, but where's your soul ...

I think it's good but not massive. Might be just an off day for him with it...

I was basing it on more than just this match - DFs seem to be regularly mentioned in previous match reports.
