George Morgan and Kyle Edmund are down to warm up for the Australian Open here, but I cannot find the drawsheet for the Boys event. Laura Deigman is our sole representative in the Girls, and she literally has a monumental task to beat a 14 year old opponent whose height is recorded as 4 metres on the ITF women's site. No wonder she boasts a 26-2 record in 2010
Rain disruption in Melbourne prevented any start to the main draw, but the boys qualifying was completed, and the main draw made. Kyle appears to have a good draw against an opponent who lost to Liam in his last match in September, but George plays an Aussie who won 3 consecutive tournaments in the autumn, albeit lower grade, so could prove tricky.
In doubles George teams up with Mate Pavic as top seeds, whilst Kyle partners Sean Berman for the second time
Boys R1 (L64)
Kyle Edmund (GBR) v Adam Pavlasek (CZE) (WC) Andrew Harris (AUS) v (4) George Morgan (GBR)

Both boys came through comfortably. Kyle's next opponent is lowly ranked because he has concentrated mainly on Futures, with wins against Andrew Gregory amongst others. His section has opened up with George's doubles partner and third seed Mate Pavic surprisingly beaten

Girls R1 (L64)
Ashleigh Barty (AUS) d. Laura Deigman (GBR) 6-1 6-4
Five games is more than the majority of Barty's opponents managed last year.
They played two rounds today to catch up, and although the boys came through their first matches, the third round proved the endpoint. Kyle's marathon second round match may well have taken its toll - he and partner also gave a w/o in the doubles, but that was probably because Berman retired in his singles. George and partner are through to the quarters

yet more Aussies bite the dust Despite this George will drop a place to 8 next week as his Czech SF drops off and De Loore (who reached the semis here) passes him
