Where is Sean Thornley? I was thinking the very same when I read your post MS. It is a pretty weak field and few British entrants.
Last January saw Eaton win over Baker in the final. I have to say it has been a disappointing year for both since then. I hope Jamie can get something going here and in the year ahead. Although it is his home tournament he probably favours slightly slower surfaces.
As for Chris, he has been a "flash in the pan" player for some time. He could well take advantage of relatively fast courts to win again, or lose hopelessly in the first round. If he wins it won't tell you anything about his form for the rest of the year.
Slabba has not had a great time since his injury, but you hope he will again find the form to get back to a higher ranking. But it is taking a long time.
Dan Evans is probably the one to watch. He is more mature and knows what he is capable of. And his serve is better too.
Those players apart, the junior contingent is also rather depleted. Liam Broady, Ahmed El Menshawy and Richard Gabb are there. But no real depth.
The first futures of the year seems to have come around rather early. New year hangovers have not cleared yet and the streets of Glasgow are like an ice rink at the moment. I am glad Evo decided to be a late entrant, but a disappointing field. 9 Brits and 7 Frenchmen. Not good odds really.
