Well it's not that bad but if you consider that since August he only played those 2 challengers for income (along with a bonus check of £2.5K) and gets no additional support from the LTA nor external sponsors yet has had to fund himself through his rehabilitation then winter training in the states as well as for these events (which don't include hospitality) then he probably does want to try and earn a few extra pennies.

Not a seed left standing: apart from Borvanov, Gard (5/WR 412), lost to Alex Ward's conqueror, David Souto (WR 455) by 4 &5, while Matej Bocko (SVK/PR/WR 900) saw off Benjamin Balleret (7/WR443) by 3 & 2!
Not a good day at all for Boggo, perhaps understandably, but Dan S is going like a train:
QF: Dan Smethurst & Alex Ward WR 1989 defeated Suk-Young Jeong & Hyun-Joon Kim (KOR/KOR) WR 1912 by 6-4 0-6 [10-3]
QF: Alex Bogdanovic & Terence Nugent (CIV) WR 1969 lost to (3) Nicholas Monroe & Phillip Simmonds (USA/USA) WR 939 by 0 & 4
SF: (WC) Jordan Cox & Christian Harrison UNR vs Dan Smethurst & Alex Ward WR 1989
On the face of it, an easy chance for Dan & Alex to progress to the SF, but Cox & Harrison saw off the top seeds, Daniel Garza & Daniel Yoo (MEX/KOR, WR 805) in the QF... Tha said, Dan beat Harrison in the second round of the singles yesterday.
QF: Dan Smethurst WR 497 (GBR) vs. Phillip Simmonds (USA) WR 570
Simmonds disposed of 6th seed Borvanov 6-3, 6-2 earlier
Hopefully Smetty will come through this one, i don't know Simmonds record vs. Brits, hopefully Steven will fill in the gaps!
I was surprised to see Simmonds ranked that low - he has a CH of 219, though that was back in 2006. The Brit he has played most often is Jamie Baker, who beat him in Exmouth in 2006 and Lexington in 2007, lost a 3-setter to him in Vancouver qualifying 2008 then beat him 6-2 1-0 ret. in Tallahassee qualifying last year.
