Futures are surely going to be pretty weak then if Goodall managed to scrape in a challenger DA as almost WR400, expecting a decent points haul this week from our lads
Wow Coxy and Milt are fairly going for the weak 15k, Kudos to them if one of them wins one of the 3, they'll easily make the top 250 hopefully at some point this year
Unfortunately I won't be shocked if come May, Coxy is ranked 200 but playing like he's ranked 350. Of course I'll be glad if I'm wrong, but I don't see how these weak Futures will help him improve.

I do kind of see your point in the short term. But with only 10 points to defend until the anniversary of his Frinton title in July as you say he has a real chance of getting his ranking up quite a bit during the first half of the year collecting points in Futures, especially from weaker ones.
I would hope if he does significantly improve his ranking he would then use that ranking to compete in Challengers ( indeed if he got it to low 200s he could afford a few failures to defend points from last year and still continue to play Challengers ) and thus compete more at a higher level and work from there.

My take on it is different and I am definitely not talking short term.. he defends almost nothing in the first half, so why not spend it on improving his tennis? He'll never get a better opportunity, I feel.
Is it likely that after playing the likes of Grassi (no offence intended to him) for five months, he'll suddenly be beating Wardy and co. just because he's ranked 200? It could well be that after Wimbly, he'll be playing the same Futures as last year and given how difficult winning a title at any level is, he'll actually be losing points in comparison. Instead, if he plays Challengers now, he can hardly get less than 10 points before Wimbledon, isn't it!!! And I fail to see how playing these gimme Futures will have a greater chance of turning him into a Challenger player.
I can never see sense in his scheduling. If he's bent on playing Futures to get a ranking boost, why was he playing Challengers at the end of last year? Did he become a poorer player in the close season?
Does this means Evo is just going to play events in the UK?
The boy has so much talent, if he had the belief and the ability to let things get the better of him, i.e. criticism, he'd be a good challenger player. At the moment he's one of the best we have to offer, i hope he doesn't pack it in.
