RE: AEGON British Tour 2011 thread

Anyone know what happened at the BT in Notts last week , told to expect a strong field with players failing to qualify for the Notts Challenger taking part ? Strangely nothing reported on this ?

Liam Broady won it comfortably in the end (beat Marc Westgate 3 & 1 in the final plus james Marsalek 1 & 4 in the semis). He wobbled in his opener, only coming through in a third set tiebreak against Scott Whitbread. Unfortunately from my perspective he was devastatingly quick in his quarter-final (0&1) - so I arrived after he had finished - but got chance to see some of the promising junior girls in Tour matches.

Fitzy has a walkover into the QFs and, in an unusual twist, Josh Goodall's lucky loser R2 opponent, 16yo Aleksandr Ernepesov, has won Davis Cup rubbers ... for Turkmenistan. (from what I can gather, he now trains in London)

Fitzy reports on Twitter that his successful run in BTs has come to an end because he has had to pull out of the Final with illness, which means Josh Goodall has won the title.

It hasn't been the healthiest week in his half of the draw - first, Adam Watson withdrew against him in R2, then Marcus Willis retired at 6-3 2-0 down in the semis and now this. Best wishes to all of them for a quick recovery!

Unusually, the top four seeds for this week's BT in Wrexham are all ranked in the top 750 - (1) Evo, (2) Milton, (3) Willis & (4) Fitzy!

Norwich Grade 2

Final:
Richard Bloomfield d. Dominic Ross-Hurst 6-0 6-2

£400 for Richard in what must be the only tournament he can stay at home for......and keeps his eye in for the two futures starting in just over a week.

Honestly I don't get why Marcus was playing at Taunton and not at Glasgow.

He only has 13 points so far this year and is facing ending the year outside of the top 800. Desperately needs a good week at Cardiff.

I can only guess it must be financial reasons - virtually guaranteed prize money in Cardiff & he can stay in the south-west without having to pay for travel to and accommodation in Glasgow.
