Well, the thread for this in the Andy section seems to have got lost so I'll just comment here. . .
Andy won in two tiebreaks. I couldn't follow the match very well as I was visiting my sister and it would have seemed a bit rude to plonk myself down straight in front of her computer - a pair of binoculars would have come in handy! He seemed to make a lot of unforced errors, but it looked to me as though he was more intent on match practice than on trying to win easily. Plus, of course, Mahut is a very unorthodox player who can be very tricky - but I would be amazed if Andy didn't win much more easily if they meet in the AO.
18 months ago I saw Mlad play at the French open, and at that stage I marked her down as the only potential grand slam champion of the current generation of juniors. She then got injured, lost confidence and her ranking plumetted, but now she looks exceptionally good again, huge power and very good movement for a tall girl. Team GB lacklustre to say the least. Andy clearly treating this week as a practice week with no desire to try to win the HC. Laura started off exceptionally well in her singles, better than on Monday, but when Mlad found her range she struggled to match the French girl. She then lost a bit of confidence probably because she thought she would win today and things weren't going her way.Mlad played poorly in the second but with Laura making so many uncharacteristic UE's it was a struggle even to win the second. Then in the third with Laura tiring the French girl got back on top playing much better.
Hmmm. I smell anti-pommie conspiracy. The Burnswood Dome is directly across the Swan river from the WACA and it looks like its generally a place to avoid for Brits at the moment. England Women were losing an ODI there yesterday, on top of the test defeat for the men last month, and now two failure from Laura & Andy. I guess you could say its all going up the Swaney.

That's OK. The Australian Open is held in Melbourne Park which just happens to be very adjacent to the MCG where didn't England win the last test match of 2010 by the little matter of an innings and 157 runs
