Theres dedication and then theres dubious sanity. Quite a few russians/serbs in this one. They dont celebrate christmas til Jan 7th.

I really hope Emily can pick up a win here after making all that effort

R1: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 486 beat LIU, Chi-Fan (TPE) Q UNR 6-2 6-2

Short and sharp 2 and 2 win today, courts lightning and slippery but pretty fun for serving :) doubs later with liga.

Excellent. Some points in the bag and (in all likelihood) an encounter with Kiki mladenovic.

Her opponent is almost more challenging than the French girl she beat (presumably as I'm on my phone and can't be bothered to check) as at least Kiki was a known quantity I.e. She hits the ball hard.

Glad to see em doing well in doubles too

Playing in week 51 is beginning to look worthwhile! smile.gif

R2: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 490 beat WONGTEANCHAI, Varatchaya (THA) 647 by 3 & 5 smile.gif

QF: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 490 v SHKUDUN, Anna (UKR) 671

15-year-old Shkudun beat no. 4 seed Palkina today, but when they met in the QFs Mandya earlier this month (when coincidentally it was Shkudun who had just beaten Wongteanchai in R2), Emily won 0 & 5.

Emily seems to quite like India, she spent Christmas at a $50K in Delhi the year before last going out in the 2nd round and then played a couple of 10Ks in Delhi earlier this year reaching two finals and winning one.

QF: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 490 lost to SHKUDUN, Anna (UKR) 671 by 3 & 3 bleh

Looks like the 15-year-old learnt a lot from their last encounter. cry Still, 14 WTA points is a decent haul from this week and she will rise about 50 places on 3 Jan.

SF: DEKMEIJERE (LAT) / WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) (2) lost to ISHIZU (JPN) / SHKUDUN (UKR) by 3 & 4 bleh

Shame for the week to end like this, but she had a decent run in both singles and dubs, so she shouldn't be too disappointed.

Fingers crossed she can take this form into 2011

Agree to the extent that Emily has got a decent points haul.  Not sure though that she has particularly shown any particular form here to get too enthused about.

All the best to her though for 2011
