Oliver Golding has surprisingly opted to give the Australian tournaments a miss, though he is down to play the Casablanca Grade A after Christmas. Kyle Edmund is set to make his Australian Open debut, having sneaked into the top 100 this week thanks to other players losing points.
Liam and Jess have now withdrawn - Liam is playing Futures whilst Jess is down for the Grade 1 event in the Czech Republic which overlaps with the Australian Open. Also Lucy is currently on the list for a competing 10K event, so will have to withdraw from that or the Australian Open shortly.
According to Neil Harman, writing in today's Australian, Oli has actually been barred from participating in the Australian Open as a result of the penalties/default he incurred at the Eddie Herr.
I had been reading in the Mexican article in the Casablanca thread that : "Oliver hopes in 2011 to become the number 1 junior in the world and to win at least one junior grand slam."
That makes sense. We never did get an elaboration on what ollie did at eddie herr, but he better not let it happen again whatever it was.
i thought it was ball abuse and some obscene language...which, presuming neither of those were aimed at a particular person, surely this punishment is over the top? I've never had Golding down as someone who actually gets into incidents with other people...
I favour taking a tough line, but this tough action against a junior serves as a reminder of authorities' spineless handing of Serena Williams' misconduct.
Why is it cool that he was born in South Africa ? Wouldn't it be better if he was born and bread in this country ?
I think Maza was just making a joke based in the English cricket team's success with several South African born players. Plus i'm fairly sure Edmund was raised in England..
Fair enough, its just I know that every time Kyle is mentioned in the press he will always be described as South African born, which I find extremely annoying given as you say that he has been raised in England.
