RE: ENTRIES WEEK 2: 10/01/2011

Well I didn't see that coming...Boggo playing a $10K futures on clay!

Also Cox, Milton playing China instead of Glasgow...Glasgow list still to be released

Has to be the weirdest entry week ever.

I am assuming that the US Futures is on green clay? Didn't Boggo win a green clay Futures when he was a kid or am I just imagining it?

And what on earth is Dan Cox doing in China when he should be playing ATPs? confused.gif Hope he'll play in Glasgow, at least.

yep, alex is going to try something a little different this year, 10k futures (theres 4 in row in the states), little money, little points, but hopefully a lot of matches.

i would guess his plan will be the 4 futures, short break, Delray Q, Dallas CH. Although the DC may throw a spanner in there.

I  think he feels that he's done the indoor early season route many times, but indoor tennis won't get him to the big time so he's got to improve outdoors.

fingers crossed it will work.

Arka - Boggo was finalist on clay (dont know if it was green or red) in the UK, lost to Monfils, who he then beat the very next week in a different clay futures b4 going out in  the QF's if i remember correctly.

It is a brave move by Alex but, dont forget the new bonus system from the LTA that may actually make these tournaments not quite so unviable from a financial point of view.  Ranking points are steeped in favour of event winners as well, if Alex could pick up a tiltle or two out of the four, it could make for a nice solid start to the year (yet not an exceptional one I accept).

If you keep doing what you've always done, chances are you'll get what you've always got.  He's lining up something totally different, I fully respect that, I hope it pays off for him.

(Not sure on why Dan & Josh are off to China though????)

So if Wardy wins a round at Sydney we will have no one in Aus Open qualiying.
Can't see Goodall on any lists?

The Glasgow list isn't too bad if you look on the face of it.

Balazs' record on hardcourt's is pretty shambolic and he is mainly a hard-courter.

Ignatik is playing in Sao Paolo challenger in Week 1 would he really want to do a 12 hour journey to play in this wintry weather?

Desein hasn't been on the best of form and resorted to the extremely weak Nigeria futures to gain reasonable points.

So hopefully a reasonable chance for our GB boys to do well!

So Coxy is actually going to China, wow. I hope he is planning on playing the Challenger in Singapore the week after the two Futures. Actually, that's the most logical choice.

There are two Challengers in Australia in the weeks following the Singapore Challenger. I think he should play them, too - it's not very far off (in international tennis terms) and someone needs to continue with the British sporting conquest of Australia after the Ashes and Australian Open are won.

(Actually, I think I was slightly harsh on his plans earlier in this thread. If he does play the three Challengers, it'll be a shrewd move in my opinion.)

Just noticed Morgan is playing in Brazil (didn't think to look there!) so every chance he will play the Challenger the week before
