Girls: Botswana International Junior Open - Grade 4 (Week 50)

Katy Dunne aims for a double in Southern Africa. Her next scheduled tournament is a Grade 1 event in Costa Rica, and I hope she sticks to the higher grades after that.

R1 (L64)

(1) Katy Dunne (GBR) Bye

R2

(1) Katy Dunne (GBR) v Nelise Verster (RSA)

Thanks for the info, when is she playing Costa Rica, this year or next?

Seems strange to bother with a G4, would winning this even have much impact on her ranking?

The Latin American Junior Circuit starts immediately after Christmas with the Grade A Casablanca Cup (Mexico) then heads south at the beginning of January through Costa Rica to the western side of South America, before turning up the eastern side and ending in March with the Copa Gerdau Grade A (Brazil).

Katy has been very proficient in lower grade tournaments, which gives her a current ranking of 156. You are right that there is little scope for ranking improvement now with Grade 4s/5s - a maximum of 20 places for winning both singles and doubles here. To establish herself in the top 100 she will need some 60 pointers or more, which she can only get in higher grade events. Her current ranking is good enough for entry to most of these events, and a rise of 20 places is unlikely to affect this.

Katy may well struggle for a while against better players, but that's the way to improve. I can't see her gaining much beneficial experience here in a field where the second seed is only ranked 376.

Thanks for the info, very useful. I agree, it seems she needs to at least establish a bit of a mix! Lets just hope she does the double anyways!
