Strange email

Has anybody else received a strange email from someone called Anna, claiming to have read their profile on this board and saying she is sure she would "click" with them? I deleted it immediately - I can't see how an elderly female is going to click with what is presumably a young girl! I also am not at all sure how she got my email - I can't see that it is available on my profile.

Looked fishy to me. Anna - if this email is genuine, you can reply to this thread, where you might get an answer - I'm certainly not replying to a suspicious-looking email!

Yes, I imagine most of us got that pm.

I'm sure it's the standard 1) send a nice pic to anyone who replies, 2) try to get them hooked and 3) eventually ask them for money to help out dying parent/sibling/dog/whatever type scam.

I get dozens of emails like that per week on my email accounts, and no I haven't replied to any of them, but it doesn't take much research to find out what the idea behind them is. LOL

Btw I'm not sure how you ban someone who hasn't actually posted on the forum - the profile is at http://britishtennis.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=61841&p=20&memberID=1351142 if any of the über-moderators are able to do it.

I hope we're not going to get a stream of new registrants set up just to do this from now on *yawn*

What baffled me is that it was an email, not a PM. How the heck did whoever was responsible get my email address?

I got an email too.

I was wondering how I got an email too, but there is a Send Email button on our profile pages, so that's how.

Oh I see, I thought you meant a pm in the sense of a forum mail. I just got it by pm.

It's probably because I've set "Email Visible to Other Members" to "No, and don't accept email" - the other options are "Yes, email visible" and "No, accept email anonymously" - I imagine the latter is what you've got it set to.

To change it (and whether or not you get email notification of pms, etc), just click "User Details" in the menu bar near the top of the page then click "Settings" in the menu on the left-hand side of the page that comes up.

Yes, I got a PM with the same email setting as Steven.

I thought it great that she could just sense from my profile what a wonderful guy I was from my name, location and date of birth  wink

Yes, thanks Steven, that was it. I couldn't remember setting that - but then, it is over five years ago since I joined and I now have trouble remembering what happened five minutes ago. . .

Changed!

I saw through this straight away, recognising it as spam from an exiled South African, now living in the middle east. He's cleverly spelled his name backwards in an attempt to throw us off the scent.

I got it too through the PM on the board. Completely ignored it. I'm around Mad's age so knew immediately the poor sod had no idea who he/she was contacting.wink
