RE: Week 46 Futures - Czech Rep F4 ($15K) - Roznov

A golden opportunity for young Dan?  If he can find a way to beat Rumler & reach the final, there he'd face either the only seed left standing, Jan Mertl (CZE/5), who is currently ranked 403, but has a career high of 163 (July 2007!), & who put out the Russian top seed, Matsukevitch, in three sets earlier, or the Czech WC, Jiri Vesely (WR 1231), who's just thrashed Luca Vanni (3) by 3 & 0 & also saw off Pavel Snobel (7) by 2 & 1 in the second round yesterday. eyepopping.gif  Not to be underestimated, I think... no

Well done, Dan! biggrin

Vesely finally met his match:  Mertl beat him by 6-3 7-6(5), so

Final:  (5) Jan Mertl (CZE) WR 403 vs Dan Smethurst WR 547

It would be a good one for Dan to win, but I fear Mertl may have just a bit too much for him. pray.gif

That matches his best points haul of the year and will put him back into the top 500.

Mertl is the defending champion here - he beat Josh Goodall on his way to the title here last year, but lost a 3-setter to Boggo last month.
