SF: James Ward WR 217 v Matthias Bachinger (GER) WR 239
Bachinger thrased the 6th seed Ebden 0 and 1 to get to this stage. The H2H is 1-0 to Bachinger, with a 2 and 2 victory in Challenger qualifyin in Mexico City last April. The German had a horrible first half of the year but has been in much better form in the second half, reaching 2 Challenger SFs and 2 QFs as well as qualifying for both Stockholm and Vienna, advancing a round in the former (beating Kubot). Bachinger has made 4 challenger finals (the last one being at Freudenstadt in August 2008) with 1 title (Louisville in October 2007). So Bachinger does have experience at this level but not particularly recently. On balance I would suggest that the German is the favourite but not by much.
Having watched James closely this week, I firmly believe if he can keep this form up he will break the top 100 within a year. Very impressed with the tennis he is producing and I wish him luck today!

I wrote last week regarding exasperation at the non information flow out of Loughborough, which seemed to resonate with a few folk, and I copied an email sent to the LTA by a member of menstennisforums. After this I actually emailed myself to the contact mail on the LTA site site info@Lta.org.uk. copying that email with my support.
This evening I have a reply. While I do appreciate Chris replying I don't think it answers a great deal as to why so many other tournaments can do so much better. They mention their twitter. My recollection was that it was very tardy indeed. The only really decent twitter service was when James from this forum was there.
I am afraid I just sense an inability to connect with the fact that there are many real tennis followers out here who do seek information as quickly as possible. When folk are getting into a sport it is the sort of thing that they look for and encourages them to get more intertested, follow more and maybe go to events and / or pass their interest on to family. The LTA needs to encourage enthusiasts, not annoy them.
I fully intend to enquire before say the first British Challenger of next year as to how supposed intended improvements have come on, and what differences we shall see.
Anyway...
Dear Iain,
Thank you for taking the time to send through your feedback. Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
We always look to take it on board and improve our service where we can. In this instance Im sorry you felt the Challenger in Loughborough was not covered sufficiently well in terms of results.
The live scores we have on the World Map come from the ATP / WTA and are feeds from them, they are not something we directly create/ manage but we do provide people the opportunity of accessing them from our site as and when they are available. In this instance they chose not to have a live scores service from the Loughborough tournament.
The drawsheets for our events are managed by the tournament directors who look to update them at the end of each days play and also feed through results in a timely manner so we can update news/twitter etc.
This is something that we are always trying to find ways to improve and with the new website, which will be available from early next year, we should be in a position to better support however we need to balance the way(s) in which we provide updates and information to people between our various channels and this has seen large steps forward in the last 12 months.
We are continuing to develop efficient ways of keeping people up-to-date with British tennis across our digital channels and look forward to updating people on these throughout 2011 as we look to improve our service.
Thanks for your feedback once again.
Best wishes,
Chris

Why would the ATP choose which events get Livescores? i assume on their livecore pop up. There must be a reason in relation to facilties the actual event is able to provide.
Regarless as we have seen at other events, Eckental as a recent example, manage with just a webcam. Then you go to the other extreme of say Belgrade where they run good quality live streams with highlights packages, again this isn't ATP doing this, it's indivial tournaments/national associtiations willing to put the effort in.
Now if the LTA managed to find a way so that live scores were available on their website for all GB pro events surely that would be a way to drive more traffic there? Other than well we just copy what the ATP put up, after it's already on the ATP site. might as well just go to the ATP then.
Also seems they are getting another new webistew, the current one (ok its a piece of carp and a nightmare to navigate) but it must be what, 2 years old? i wonder how much money is going on this.

Well done for bothering to write indiana. If you follow it up next year as promised please let us know on here, I'll certainly do likewise.
It actually dosen't take that much to get things changed sometimes. I don't think anyone involved at British Tennis goes into work saying "how badly can I do my job today?" A few e-mails, written with a hint of common sense and we may get somewhere on this one.

Yes, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that. I cannot believe the ATP dictates which Challengers have live scores and which don't!
Even twitter updates would be fine as far as I'm concerned, but there's only one recent tournament in the UK that I remember where the LTAs twitter updates were coming through faster than we were getting hold of the results from other sources.
