I wonder how JW will do against Haider Maurer today? To be honest, it would be a huge shock if James was to take it. Haider Maurer went all the way to the finals at the ATP in Vienna, losing a very close match to Melzer in the final. He had to qualify, and played five 3 set matches. Curiously, he retired injured in final round qualies when a set and 3-0 up. Clearly it wasn't too serious, he took advantage of a LL spot to beat Tomas Muster in the first round.
What do people think about Tomas Muster's comeback? Is it possible to be competitive when you are 43 yrs old? He is accepting WCs to Challenger tournaments, and has won one round. I'd like to see how he does in some Futures events. I'd be kind of disappointed if he was to win many rounds, but pleased in other ways. I think the game has moved on since he won RG, but I have empathy with him as he's roughly my age. Does he still see Fergie, I wonder?

Haider Mauerer's ATP title win in Vienna was rather amazing. Having had 2 qualifier 3 setters against Hernych and Mektic, he was then from what I see in their ATP activities actually 3 - 6 0 - 3 down to Ilhan in their FQR when he retired.
Whatever magic potions they then gave him he was revived enough to enter the main draw as a LL and beat in turn Muster, Seppi, Cilic ( in 2 sets Andy ! ) and Berrer before losing the 3 set final to Melzer It was on home ground, but still....
Re Julia's point about him maybe being kinda tired, these 8 matches were the week before last so I take it he relaxed a bit last week.

It wasn't my photo, saw it on a friends facebook page!
Wow, what a win from Ward! Not just the fact he got the win but the scoreline as well. Got to think he has a good shot at the final in a match against either Ebden or Bachinger
finally a decent challenger showing from Ward this year - he's performed brilliantly at every other level (ATP, Futures, DC). His slightly disappointing form in the challengers is holding his ranking back, so this week is a good boost for him
Nice to see Ward breaking that Challenger QF duck this season (had gone 0-4 in Challenger QF matches, reaching that stage at Manta, Vancouver, Seville and Bangkok). Indeed this is only his second Challenger SF of his career, following on from that title in Sarasota last year.

Good point. I was trying to work out why he was still below his career high when this seems to have been such a great year for him, but you're right, you tend to amass the most points from good performances at the level you should be playing at, which is obviously Challengers at the moment for him.
