Anne is definately back to the player she was, lets hope she can get her ranking back to where it deserves to be quickly.

Wimbledon semi-finalist Kvitova next.

Great win from Anne, after the Italian pulled it back to 3-3 in set one, Anne reeled off 9 games in a row. Fingers crossed she faces the Kvitova of recent weeks who can't keep the ball in play rather than the Kvitova who made it to the SF of Wimbers.

Didn't Heather beat Kvitova at Eastbourne?

Delighted to see I was being unduly pessimistic when I posted the 3-3 scoreline in the first set! biggrin Well done, Anne. smile

Easy peasy. If she can dispose of Kvitova then she should see her edging ever closer to top 100 again.

No, you must be thinking of Pironkova or perhaps Wozniak. Kvitova has improved a lot in the last couple of years (e.g. she lost to Mel South back in 2008) and she beat Elena at the USO.

Stunning scoreline today, given that Anne was playing a top 100 player.

Ah yes thankyou, it was Pironkova I was thinking of.

Unfortunately Anne will have to beat Kvitova for this to add to her points total, as her bottom score is a 20 not counting mandatories. If she does so, an increase of 16 points would take her to about 121 at present. Scant reward for a really impressive win, so let's hope she can get the big one!

Anne has tweeted about her match (well I assume it's about her match...):

"Scored a win on an ice rink today despite timing a few forehands in to the side fence. Next task is to find a laundrette. Joy!"

Was the court slippy ?
Anyway it looks very much like another impressive performance.
I thought there might be a letdown after last week, but clearly the confidence gained from last week has got her back to the playing level we know shes capable of.
Kivitova will be very tough, and she needs the ranking points from a victory in this match to make further progress up the rankings. This draw isn't much weaker than a tier 3 event.
Next year Anne will be in line for a huge jump in the rankings given this form, as she will be defending very few grand slam points.
Oh and Anne now a cert to be picked for Fed Cup team probably at the expense of Heather.

Hadn't realised that Brianti won the 100K+H in Tokyo at the beginning of the month, she beat the top seed Shuai Zhang in the semi-final and 3rd seed Rybarikova in the final.   Very impressive all round for Anne! smile
