Week 42 - Futures F2 ($15K) - Meshref 2, Kuwait - Hard

With Wardy having pulled out, Philip Barlow is flying the flag in Kuwait this week:

L32: Philip Barlow WR 1243 v (WC) Mohammed Abdal (KUW) UNR

Abdal is a 16-y-o whose first Futures event was Meshref last week - he won by retirement in QR1 then lost in 3 sets to a 15-y-o fellow Kuwaiti who got mashed 1 & 3 by a Swiss player with one ranking point in R1 of the main draw. So not a bad draw then! smile.gif

Philip took full advantage of his kind R1 draw and has been rewarded by another bit of luck:

L32: Philip Barlow WR 1239 beat (WC) Mohammed Abdal (KUW) UNR by 0 & 2 smile.gif

L16: Philip Barlow WR 1239 v Omar Awadhy (UAE) UNR

Awadhy, who had a career high of 805 way back in 2003, got through after no. 7 seed Sichez pulled out and a lucky loser took his place. However, he did take a set off Ghedin last week, so he might still prove to be too strong.
