Good for Naomi! It would seem she closed out the second set just in time to deny Bergot another Brit-bashing comeback. Pity about Tara, but she has done well this week anyway. Hope her injury will not affect her too much. I feel bad now for thinking briefly that Tara could lose a pound or two. I then put the thought out of my mind. She is an endomorph in a tennis world full of ectomorphs. Endos are made to be smaller and to carry more weight. It can be futile to go too much against nature. It doesn't seem to be hurting her results much!
Great win for Naomi, but was disheartened by her comments about LTA funding. Our top funded players were not playing here, so I don't think its anything to boast about.

I can understand her aminosity, she's the UKs number 7 and clearly has much more talent than some others who are receiving funding. The LTA needs to have a more business orientated mindframe and lose their stubborn stiff upper lip
She'd have the funding if she and her family were willing to take it. Lta have offerred, but given the past treatment of Naomi they don't want to accept it.
Perfectly understandable I think as she was made an example off and treated ridiculously. Maybe once more water has passed under the bridge the broady family will feel comfortable moving back toward the LTA
On the Broady family & LTA funding issue, this two-year-old article by Neil Harman in The Times, while primarily about Liam, Naomi's younger brother, does shed some light on the animosity of their father, Simon, toward the LTA.

Confirmed by the Beeb: 4-6 6-7(1).
Couldn't help laughing at the (inadvertent?) implication that the BBC, of all people, are more reliable than Naomi regarding Naomi's own results.

Didn't see too much of Naomi's match. The Pliskova she faced was the lesser ranked one. While Naomi seemed to have the power, the other girl had a craftier game. I came in when NB was 5-4 up in the second set so I hoped it would be taken to a third set. Sadly Miss Pliskova held serve and dominated the tie break. Still a good week for Naomi.
The other semi was a real battle. The Greek girl Georgatou came through a tense final set tie break against Tara's conquerer De Lattre. Although 2 courts away the screams and tension were very noticeable. It always amazes me when the girls can kiss and hug at the net after such a tense, close encounter.
