Hmm shame to see Naomi losing early. I guess it is hard to say whether it was a lack or fitness, or being outplayed or a bad day at the office that caused that defeat.
Naomi now 5 won 10 lost for 3 set matches this year. You also get that impression when you watch her, a bit like a boxer with big punches, who unless they can make the knockout blow early in the contest tend to fade as the match wears on. We know her movement is poor as per Laura but there is no excuse for poor fitness.
That's a good win for Naomi B given that she lost in straight sets to her in Wimbledon qualifying. We have to remember with Naomi C that she has struggled with a debilitating viral illness, and this may still affect her training programme and stamina
Great win for Naomi after her belgian experience, and hopefully a springboard to consistently pulling out higher level performances. Difficult to know whether the illness Cav had two years ago is still affecting her performances, and it is fair to say if it is, it is highly likely to remain a problem for the foreseeable future. I'd rather be correct with my first assumption that she has no lingering medical problem and fitness is something she can really work on.
Tamaela will be tough, she stopped playing at the end of 2007 (injury?) and started again last summer and has gone from unranked to inside the top 250 in just over a year. Before her hiatus she had a career high of 129 and had wins over Craybas, Beltrame, Hlavakova and Katie. Still hopefully with the home advantage and her powerful game, Tara can come through.
