Great stuff from Anne this week - she is now up to the 120s in the rankings and 6-0 in WTA main tour QFs but 0-5 in WTA SFs.
She should have a decent chance of ending the latter streak tomorrow, because Vinci is unseeded, WR 45 and Anne actually leads the H2H 1-0, albeat a 46 64 61 win in Surbiton 7 years ago!

Very encouraging performance. It would have been easy to fall away after losing the first set, wihere she had so many breakpoints and setpoints, but she buckled down and played disciplined tennis sprinkled with some potent forehand winners. It means she bookends the season with WTA semifinals, and one more win here would almost certainly be enough to make the Australian Open main draw.
Really good stuff from Anne. I guess be good if she made the Aussie Open maindraw but not so good if she loses in the first round and gets another mandatory 5 points. With her 6 very low mandatories just now, she's sort of living off 10 counters.
Vinci will be very tough, I've seen her a couple of times recently and yes she doesn't have any major weapons but she is very tough to break down. Given the marathon that Anne played today and the poor SF record she has, this will comfortably need to be her biggest performance to date this week to enable her to get the win.

Anne lost in Fes QFs this year.
Doubles - Quarterfinals Hercog/Martic (SLO/CRO) d. Borwell/Keothavong (GBR/GBR) 62 64
Doh! * Reminds self again never ever to say stuff like this without properly checking * - I remembered her getting to 6-0 and didn't remember her losing a main tour QF since (forgot Fes was a WTA), one of the other tennis sites had just tweeted something similar too and I was in such a rush (getting back from 24 hours away with loads of work to do as well as trying to catch up on the results) that I just went with it without doing a full check on ITF. Unacceptable

That's why I don't post as much these days! By the time I have double-checked to make sure what I am about to post is correct, half-a-dozen other posters have got in before me!
