Week 42 - WTA ($220K) - Luxembourg, Hard

Heather has a familiar opponent:

(2/WC) Alize Cornet (FRA) v Ivana Lisjak (CRO)
Petra Martic (CRO) v Liana Ungur (ROU)
(WC) Andreja Klepac (SLO) v Eleni Daniilidou (GRE)
Heather Watson (GBR) v (6) Sabine Lisicki (GER)

Lisicki was runner up here last year.

Much tougher qualifying field than usual.

Heather's match is fifth on, with play starting at 8.30am BST, so probably during the afternoon

That does look pretty tough qualifying and no doubt Lisicki will be well up to revenge Heather beating her in Shrewsbury.

That really is quite a coincidence that she should draw Lisicki. Bet she could hardly believe it.  Not a 'given' for sure just because she beat her 2 weeks ago.  Also I expect India will have taken it's toll on Heather.  But she'll certainly give it her best,  I know that.

I must say, I thought she had a good chance to take the title in Glasgow, but I guess more points up for grabs here?

^Heather's match with Lisicki was a bit further back than two weeks ago. But, yeh, I understand your point.

I should think Lisicki should have had a few more matches under her now and will be looking at playing closer to her normal level. Hopefully Heather has completely gotten over the mild illness and jet lag of travelling to India.

Bally has also started in Moscow and is a break down 1-2*

Heather 3-2*. She's won no point's Lisicki's serve, and Lisicki has only won 3 on Heathers, 2 of which were double faults. Must be enthralling to watch!

Heather was broken again allowing Lisicki to serve for the set, but Heather retrieved a 30-0 situation to break back for a tiebreak

6-6

Heather has two more setpoints at 6-4*. The first is saved with a Lisicki ace, and the second is not taken either.

6-6
6-7*
7-7
7-8
7-9

First set to Lisicki 7-6(7) Will Heather rue all those missed setpoints?

Heather immediately broken to 15, has a breakback point but cannot capitalise, so it's a long way back

6-7(7) 0*-3

Yes, though it's still only one break and Heather has been well into both Lisicki's service games this set.
