RE: Shanghai Masters 2010 Pickem Competition

:) Andy wins the tournament. Well I'm happy. It was a good run, and I feel like I've picked up a good amount of points here.

World No 1 eblunt gathers up another 659 points.  I predict a world record long reign at number 1    smile

I hope so biggrin. Seriously, that's done me a big favour, since I was due to lose the 601 from Paris next pickem. Now I've not got any counters til RG next year, but nethertheless, someone could easily come in with a few big scores.

I haven't had a chance to look, but do you really mean you're now going to have a score over 600 that's a non-counter? That's got to be a record!!

Yes, I've got a 601 non-counterfor Paris next up.  Is there any facility in Pickem  for selling unused scores  smile  ?

I know it is not going to be very long before they are out of date (i.e. when Paris 2010 is added), but I have finally had the chance to update and publish the BOTB overall rankings after Shanghai, so that those who had big rises and/or hit career highs can at least enjoy seeing them for a little while!

The Paris results tables have been updated to show these rankings too - previously, they were showing post-USO rankings.

POST-SHANGHAI 2010 BOTB PICK 'EM RANKINGS

The new overall ranking list (with over 700 ranked players) and the pick 'em 'Hall of Fame' after the 2010 Shanghai Masters can now be found at http://www.freewebs.com/britishtennis/Competitions.html

TEAMS

World no. 1s TAT finished 2nd last in Shanghai and saw their lead cut to just 20 points by AM.com, who have (or should I say, had ...) a very good chance of overtaking them in Paris. BT.net and MTF remained at WR 3 and WR 4 respectively, while the Feddies climbed 2 to 5th after finishing 3rd in Shanghai.

The only other teams that moved more than one place within the top 10 were Team CC, up 2 to WR 8 after finishing 2nd in Shanghai, swapping places wth JM.org, down 2 to WR 10.

Shanghai winners Bangor Uni and the other new team, ATP DCC, entered the rankings at WR 18 and WR 19 respectively.

NEW INDIVIDUAL TOP 10

World no. 1 eblunt (BT) extended his lead to over 200 points with yet another 600+ ranking points haul - he is in the unprecedented position of having a non-counting 8th best score of over 600 (601 from Paris last year) and has no points to defend until Roland Garros 2011!

Amazingly, none of the rest of the new top 17 actually managed to exceed one of their previous best 7 counting scores in Shanghai (though few of them were defending points from Shanghai 2009 either), so any upward moves near the top are just due to other players having had even more points to defend and thus dropping back.

As a result, former world no. 1 Shabba (IN) (the only member of the new top 17 with points to defend in Paris), Sparkey (GB) & Roy (GR) stayed where they were in WR 2-WR 4, another former world no. 1 Scratchy (BT) rose 3 to WR 5, amd TimS (GR) fell 1 to WR 6.

Completing the top 10, yet another former world no. 1 cazza99 (AM) rose 2 to WR 7, imoen (BT) & The Knight (BT) both rose 2 to new career highs at WR 8 and WR 9 respectively, and t12j23r90 (AM) rose 2 to rejoin the top 10.

ON THE RISE

The biggest riser into the top 20 (indeed, the biggest riser in the top 100!) was JGS (IN), up 63 to WR 20 after finishing 8th in Shanghai.

Shanghai runner-up Robmeister33 (AM), up 69 to WR 106, and GOATFed (RF), up 71 to WR 120, were the fastest risers into the top 150, while Shanghai winner greatunclebulgaria (AM), up 89 to WR 195, d man (BA), up 80 to WR 172, and Shanghai 3rd placed waylandboy-tw (TA), up 74 to WR 169, were the biggest risers in the top 200.

The biggest riser into the top 300 was Matts the best! (AM), up 94 to WR 267 after finishing 6th in Shanghai, and the first 3-figure riser was durbschick (CC), up 100 to WR 380. However, the biggest risers of all were quietplease (BB), up 171 to WR 413 after a top 20 finish in Shanghai, and Arab (RF), up 171 to WR 473.

The highest new entrant was Craiky (BA), in at 447 after finishing 7th in Shanghai.

LAST YEAR'S SHANGHAI

The biggest faller I can find is The Blower (IN), down 148 to WR 558 (note that the position for the player just above is wrong and should be 557 - a minor glitch I will correct when the Paris figures are added) but as has happened here, the biggest fallers are usually those who didn't play in the latest pick 'em and are running out of counting scores, so when looking at fallers it's probably more interesting to see how the top three in the event coming off from last year have fared.

Shanghai 2009 winner banskogirl (AM) mounted an impressive attempt to defend her points, finishing 14th this year and thus only dropping 21 places to WR 250.

The other two podium finishers from last year were the two players who dropped out of the top 10 after Shanghai 2010 - last year's runner-up Hen (MT) fell 19 to WR 26 and last year's 'bronze medallist' Scotsguy (ML), fell 26 to WR 32.

THE NEXT PICK 'EM

The next pick 'em is of course already in progress and almost complete. Paris is the last pick 'em of 2010 and the 2011 BOTB season will start with the AO as usual.
