Shanghai Masters 2010 Pickem Competition

A combination of an unusual time zone for an ATP event, an unusually late main draw and a Sunday start to the main draw means that the entry window for Shanghai is very tight indeed - and unfortunately we will all have to pick before the qualifiers are known!

Entries are now open at http://www.freewebs.com/britishtennis/Competitions.html and they will close at 10.00 GMT (11 in the morning UK time / 12.00 CET / 6 am US Eastern) on Sunday.

In other words, people in Europe will need to enter on Saturday or early Sunday morning and those in the eastern US will need to enter before they go to bed on Saturday night.

Alerts

Emails appropriate to the notification option selected by past entrants will be sent out to those who asked for them, but I will not be able to do that until a bit later in the day.

Entry limit

Given the tight entry period, I don't think we need to worry about exceeding 500 entrants for this one! Indeed, although the rankings allow for the number of entrants so you can't really gain in ranking terms by entering a smaller pick 'em, it is likely to mean a higher chance than normal of a top 10/50/100 finish if you're after one of those!

Good luck to all who enter, as a team we're defending 3rd place points from last year so, your forum needs you wink.gif

This is tomorrow's schedule with the 2 main draw matches being Montanes vs Robredo NB 6 pm followed by Dolgopolov vs Almagro NB 8pm.

http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2010/5014/op.pdf

The other 7 matches are the FQR matches, so most if not all the qualifiers will be known before the Montanes vs Robredo match starts at NB 6pm  ( 11 am BST )

I'd guess a slim chance we may know where the qualifiers are placed before that first main draw match.  But at the very least folk holding on till late should know most ( maybe all ) of who the qualifiers are.

Just saying.  Many folk may just want to go ahead and get it done, not knowing the qualifiers, and don't blame me anyone if you hold on and then for some reason are too late  smile

Anyway, go BT !

Why do I always fall for the AlMUGro trick?  He seems to reach new levels of muppetry with each passing competition.

LOL yes, get the remaining 53 matches right and you'll probably have even more!

Actually, after the first three results on day 2, it's now 1032 points for 100% with 50 matches to go - it has gone down because the favs won the first three matches today, meaning the average score is now well above 50% - bonus points are based on how far you are above the average (but they don't go negative if you are below it)

I thought Shanghai was an indoor tournament.  Live Scores shows the Chardy vs Baghdatis match as "Match Suspended - Rain"   confuse.gif

Speaking of (not so) Dependable Stan... I was truly torn about who to pick in that match up between him and Gilles Simon. The GEM or a Stan who seems to have become the opposite of dependable in my Pick'ems in the past 12 months? I went with Stan because I've learned not to trust my GEMs, but frankly no matter who I picked I felt pretty dubious about either of them winning!

Meanwhile, GEMremy Chardy is somehow one set and a break up against Marcos "Dangerous Floater" Baghdatis. Fingers crossed he GEMs it all away in sets two and three.

I'm depending on Chardy for damage limitation due to Al-MUG-ro, which means that he's very likely to blow it as per GEM rule 2(b).

Also note to self, always think carefully before picking any player who's name ends in 'O'.  Just waiting for Donkey and Monaco to complete the set of pickem wreckers for me.

evileye I'm not too sure... Chardy is up 5-1 in the second set!

Sadly the 'O' rule seems to frequently apply. no

O dear.  I've got DavydenkO to reach the final, yes beating Nadal in the QFs.

How the probable total stupidity of that line of thinking didn't fully insert itself into my consciousness until it was too late I am still at a loss to know   disbelief.gif
