I have to say I'm intrigued by the fact that the founding fathers of Tiburón (no doubt spelt without the stress mark! ) should have seen fit to name their venerable burgh after a shark!
We could do with Witten and Nielsen both winning their FQR matches and a LL place coming free, because in that case both Brits would end up in the main draw!
Not looking good: Witten lost in three to a Belorussian of whom I've never heard (doesn't mean much! ), while Freddie eventually won in three...
The Belarus guy has come from nowhere. Jesse Witten must have been playing the last two sets with lead weights in his trainers. Look at some of the people the Belarus guy has lost to recently. I would expect Morgan and Golding to put away this guy.
I think Jesse needs to go to a bar and get hammered and forget such an awful performance.

... and hopefully then be too far gone to remember to sign in for a lucky loser spot
I too found it hard to believe he managed to lose to a player I hadn't heard of. (these days, there aren't many players playing at this level I haven't heard of!)

These are the last three defeats for the Belarussian who defeated Jesse Witten
R16 Siarhei Betau (BLR) 506 L 3-6, 2-6
Q Oleksandr Nedovyesov (UKR) 710 L 2-6, 1-6
Q2 Roman Tudoreanu (MDA) 751 L 3-6, 2-6
I can understand if this guy played well, but you would still have to be criminally negligent to lose a game like that. We would be very taken aback if James Ward or Jamie Baker lost to this guy.
Tough ask for Jamie, but not as tough as Steven suggests as Kuznetsov is actually ranked 239 Kuznetsov has had a solid year at Challenger level with a 18-18 record, having exclusively played at that level aside from Slam qualies and an attempt at qualifying for Houston. One of the many Challenger level players the US seems quite good at producing who seem to spend the vast majority of the year on the US Challenger circuit. He has made 2 SFs and 2 QFs so far this year

Suggests Wittten was either ill or tanking (perhaps knowing a LL place will come up, though there isn't one yet, so maybe not), not that I've ever understood why a player would tank an FQR match in which ranking points are at stake.
