Well done Laura. How many ranking points for two quali wins?
Ranking points aren't good for International qualies. 10 points so far, and another 6 if she qualifies. She plays the winner of Castano and Luzhanska who are deep in the first set
That looks a good competitive performance against a decent Japanese player playing on home soil. I get the impression Laura is becoming an increasingly good matchplayer, winning more of the points that count.
Also, though she's apparently not going to make the top 200 in tomorrow's rankings, these 10 points so far should give her a decent chance of doing so in Monday week's rankings. Might as well try gathering some more though
With 10 points and 18 points due to come off in the next month after this week this may be her only chance before year end to at least get temporarily into the top 200.
Is Laura out of entry chances for this year or has she ways of getting into any more tournaments ?

Only juniors!
She'll need to win the first round of the main draw (30pts + 16pts Q) to cover those she will lose and remain in the top 200. The only chance she has of senior competition before the AO is if she and Andy are named as the last pair for the Hopman Cup.
Qualifying spots are against:
Junri Namigata WR140 (with Stosur in R2) Kimiko Date Krumm(6) WR57 (defeated Sharapova in Tokyo 1 day before her 40th birthday) Iveta Benesova(7) WR70 Jill Craybas WR122

I think Laura has a very good chance against Castano, certainly her win / loss record and who they've been against this year compares favourably and actually Castano's best results have definitely been on clay.
I'll take Laura to win in straight sets Just hope, as Julia indicated, Castano doesn't have a chance to "play games" as one or two very experienced players have seemed to do in the past, I'm hoping it won't be close enough for that.
Given Laura has won more matches than she has lost against top 150 players this year ( indeed won more than she has lost against top 100 players ) there do seem qualifier draws that would give her a decent opportunity of a main draw first round win if she gets there. But concentrate on Castano first !
If Laura qualifies she could end up playing Date Krumm. That would make an interesting match of the generations. There can't have been many matches with such an age difference between the competitors.
