Well played Laura, now has achieved AO qualifying pretty much certain. Off to bed and will try and get up to see the Euros finish off the Americans in the RC.
201 based on today's new rankings (which have shifted the goalposts somewhat) - she's 'virtual' WR 200 after today's win but Jurikova, Fujiwara, Lertcheewakarn, Chalova and Fuda are all within 35 points of her.
She will definitely overtake Heather and Cav to be GB no. 4 next Monday though.

I was just watching sky sports news and the mens atp tournament results were scrolling along at the bottom and then BAAAM, without warning, laura's win is included in amongst the men's results. hehehe. And to compound matters they even got the scores wrong. lol. Nonetheless, good to see luaura proggressing well in the atp500.
on a serious note, beltrame seems, at 31, not to be the player she once was. so i would make laura a slight favourite here.
That's a great win against a very good young player in McHale ( clearly highest ranked 1992 born ) who will undoubtably soon surge into the top 100 and will go much higher than that.
I think Laura might just be going that way too
A real chance of going further now too, go Laura !
A good win, lets hope she can back it up. Loads of points on offer for a couple more victories, which would be perfectly feasible.
There seems to be a fixation with the objective of AO qualies, any particula rreason for this? Does it tie in with her personal objectives, or with the limits on the number of tournaments she is permitted to play?
Is there any reason she didn't play Barnstaple? Its maybe not easy to get to, but its easier than Tokyo!! Is it becasue she feels shw needs to stay away from fellow Brits for whatever reason?
Could somebody point me to a link which explaions how many tournaments youngsters are permitted to play?
Sorry if I'm covering old ground here. I'm an avid reader and occasional poster on the men's board, but we don't seem to have much to cheer about at the moment so I thought I'd start to follow Laura's progress more closely. I remember how exciting AM's progress was when his dodgy knee cleared up when he was 15 or 16.....

I think there are 2 reasons to not play Barnstaple. First of all its a case of all eyes on her at a UK event and additional pressure, and secondly playing out in Asia gives her an opportunity to gain experience of what it'll be like on the main tour when the WTA tour plays the Asian swing at this time of year.
Making the cut for the AO qualies, means she can play an additional tournament, very helpful as her limit is only 13 after directly qualifying for the US open qualies.
Beltrame on paper is an easier assignment, but I didn't think she'd beat McHale so I'm not going to predict a victory here. She lost to a veteran last week so we'll just have to wait and see.
