If it wasn't for the fact she has barely won a match since getting hitting on the head in Stanford, picking anyone but Sarah would be illogical.
But as it is she has only played six tournaments (discounting Commenwealth Games) since July and won two matches.
The replacement for Laura has to be a good doubles player (Sarah, Anna Smith, Mel South or Joss Rae) though. It would be just stupid to pick say Katie as a fourth choice singles player who doesn't play doubles.
In all likelyhood I think they will pick Sarah though.
Joss Rae is an interesting call, but she hasn't entered the Glasgow 10K -anyone know why? Seems strange, after the Commonwealths you'd think she'd think that this was her year to really progress.

Joss Rae has indeed been picked to replace Laura according to OEM.

If Joss can regain her commonwealth game form it is an inspired choice, if not slightly risky. Another positive is that Joss and Heather combined well at Wimby last year. It now looks certain to me that Bally and Anne will be our singles players for the first match with Joss/Heather playing the dubs. The alternatives to Joss were limited with Sarah still having problems with concussion and both Cav and Anna S injured.
What I do think is that Heather will get a shot at the singles at some stage, but not the opening tie , we shall see.
Possibly not if Bally and Anne are selected for the opening tie, play well and remaining ties matter ( in the sense of possibly progressing forward ). I believe in playing for the now, not for the future, in these matches.
I do though still think Heather has a chance of playing in the first tie. No reason to my mind to hold her back if they reckon she's the better pick. As you say, we shall see.

Caroline Wozniacki WR 1 / DWR 110 - lost to Anne in Fed Cup in 2005 but thrashed her 1 & 0 four years later
Karen Barbat WR 541 / DWR 462 - lost to Daneika Borthwick and Samantha Murray last October and lost 3 & 4 to Heather last February
Mai Grage WR 902 / DWR 1127 - lost 1 & 3 to Anna Fitzpatrick in Sunderland and 1 & 1 to Tara Moore in Chiswick last year
Cecilie Melsted UNR / UNR - has never won a match on tour (WTA or ITF)
As you'd expect, the key to beating Denmark is to have a doubles team that can beat Wozza + partner, something that Anne K & Anna S managed last year.
Switzerland
Patty Schnyder WR 44 (CH 7 in 05) / DWR 109 (CH 15 in 05) - Anne beat her 5 & 2 in Luxembourg late last year
Timea Bacsinszky WR 50 (CH 37 last Jun) / DWR 38 - 5-0 v Brits, the last being a 2007 AO Q win v Mel South, but she got thrashed 0 & 3 by Niculescu in R1 of the AO and is on a 4-match losing streak
Stefanie Vögele WR 133 (CH 63 last Mar) / DWR 169 - Naomi C beat her 5 & 3 at Ismaning in December, giving her a 3-match losing streak v Brits
Amra Sadikovic WR 616 (CH 350 last May) / DWR 587 - on a 4-match losing streak since winning the Innsbruck 10K last August, including a 1 & 3 loss to Heather in Québec City - hasn't played since September
Schnyder and Bacsinszky are both potentially winnable singles rubbers at the moment for any of our top three singles players, by the looks of it.
I'm beginning to think this group doesn't look too bad after all.
