The Australian wildcard also went to a player outside the qualifying range - Olivia Rogowska (259). However, there are quite a lot of players who haven't entered qualifying this year, so Laura is 5 places out with 5 main draw wild cards still to be announced - pretty good odds.
Dokic has got the second Aussie WC and the Asian one will be allocated to someone in qualifying, leaving 3 probably to be given to Molik, Ferguson and Peers unless an Aussie much lower down produces a huge result in the first two weeks of the new season.
Seeing as this has turned into a "will Laura qualify for the AO quallies I'll add my two pence worth.
Even if she fails to make the cut I think she'll pick up a wild card. She got one last year and I think she'll get another if she needs it.
I think Tennis Australia quite like her and her potential. Not sure if Tennis Australia have anything to do with the Hopman Cup but they'll be happy Andy and Laura are playing again this year.
Although a long shot and one that could cause a bit of controversy she may even get one into the main draw.
Just my opinion based on nothing :)

Yeah I was wrong on that one, I was relying on a local journalist on twitter, so the Djoker turned up after all and was on top form. Ana closing her eyes and saying no hes not with me I think that guy must have gatecrashed !!
So Aus pick up the first win, meaning they become the outside pick to progress to the final if Serbia slip up, cant see them having much chance though.
How do we rate Lauras chances v Schiavone? Can see her either making it really really close or just being blown away. Most likely Schiavone will use as many tricky little shots that she can master and expose Laura's movement with ease and not really let Laura into the match.
thank you both, not sure I'll use either, like Madeline my beauty sleep might have to take priority but being off work on Monday means I could just about justify it!
