Taylor Dent does this in challengers quite a lot, he can lose to anybody with a pulse some days.

That sounds like you've lost a fair bit of cash by betting on him!

James wasn't the only player to benefit from his opponent's retirement in the first round:  Young-Jun Kim (KOR) & Matthew Ebden (AUS/5) also bit the dust, as it were! sick.gif   Ebden is James's doubles partner & they should have played their first-round match agin none other than Bogomolov & Denis Gremelmayr (GER) today.  I feared the worst until I checked the draw sheet:  no obvious sign of a walkover, so I guess the weather finally intervened.  They're now scheduled to play tomorrow instead, assuming Ebden's recovered. please.gif

'Twill be a busy day for James, as he also has to play his second-round singles match &, if he & Ebden, get past Bogo & Gremelmayr, their second-round doubles match against the third seeds, Chris & Josh, who had a reasonably comfortable 3 & 5 win over Nielsen & Sugita today. disbelief

Ebden did recover & they beat Bogomolov & Gremelmayr by 6-3 7-6(3), so

QF:  Matthew Ebden (AUS) & James Ward vs (3) Chris Eaton & Josh Goodall,

that match presumably to be played tomorrow.  On the face of it, the bottom half of the draw has opened up a bit, as Yuki Bhambri & our old friend, Ryler Deheart, (IND/USA) took out the Russian second seeds, Kirillov & Kudryavtsev, by 6-2 6-6 retired (the retirements continue... ) today.

Only the once, Jesse Witten bt Taylor Dent 7-6(1) 7-6 (2) Talahassee 2009.  Painful.  How a guy with his serve can lose tie breaks like that I am not quite sure.  Witten was losing to guys 500/600 in the world at that point and I only needed Taylor to win for a payout of about £500.  disbelief

Yeh such a shame Eaton couldnt have taken Reischick as it looks like he could have done well had he done so

Hopefully a very busy day for James tomorrow

Singles match 2nd on court - think around 7am UK time (play begins 11am local)
Doubles match after suitable rest
Potential 2nd doubles match immediately after

SR breaks to 15 for an in-match bagel cry.gif

I hope James is ok here and we're just seeing Rieschick's 15 match winning streak form asserting itself (hopefully temporarily) - Wardy seemed to be well on top at the start.

Hmm, don't worry Wardy, this isn't your one and only chance at overtaking Boggo - you haven't got any more points to defend this year and he's got loads - relax! confuse

Wardy holds again at last, to 15 smile.gif
SR holds to 30

James is in Rieschick's service games, so if he can just hold onto his serve from now on, he's still got a chance.
