Lets hope he can make the most of his good fortune. Next up is Bogomolov who has pretty much the same ranking as James, then after that his next opponent is Laurent Recouderc, the 6th seed ranked aorund 180. A win tomorrow will take his ranking to approx 230 and a win in the round after will take him above 215.
Has he set himself any objectives? Let's hope he stay healthy.
Oh, hope Russell not seriously injured or anything ( ah probably not now that I read properly though food poisoning still not much fun ) but ..err
James wasn't the only player to benefit from his opponent's retirement in the first round: Young-Jun Kim (KOR) & Matthew Ebden (AUS/5) also bit the dust, as it were! Ebden is James's doubles partner & they should have played their first-round match agin none other than Bogomolov & Denis Gremelmayr (GER) today. I feared the worst until I checked the draw sheet: no obvious sign of a walkover, so I guess the weather finally intervened. They're now scheduled to play tomorrow instead, assuming Ebden's recovered.
'Twill be a busy day for James, as he also has to play his second-round singles match &, if he & Ebden, get past Bogo & Gremelmayr, their second-round doubles match against the third seeds, Chris & Josh, who had a reasonably comfortable 3 & 5 win over Nielsen & Sugita today.
According to Live Score Hunter, James beat the US Boggo 6-3, 7-6.
6-3 7-6(8), i.e. a very tight 2nd set t/b - according to JiroBKK, who's highly reliable.
Having beaten A-Bog (US), in Eurosport-speak, he's just 13 points behind A-Bog (UK) in the rankings ... with 14 points on offer to the winner of his QF v (6) Recouderc or Rieschick!
Wardy's H2H with the seed is 0-1, having lost 2 & 5 to him on clay in Bournemouth back in 2007.

James can win against Recouderc. In fact I would argue that if he is going to continue his push forward, he would need to be beating players such as him. Recouderc has an 9-5 record on Hard this season, most of these wins from a weak challenger in Beijing. I will go as far as saying I would make James a slight favourite in a match-up against Recouderc.

James will be playing Rieschick rather that Recouderc after he won 6-7(4) 6-1.
Using JiroBKK a source James will face Rieschick in the QF as he beat Recouderc 7-6(4), 6-1. Rieschick is on a 12 match winning streak although that does include two Futures titles in Thailand where the highest ranked player he had to beat was the WR 388. This is his first Challenger QF since Novermber 2006! James should have an excellent shot at reaching his first Challenger level SF since that Sarasota title run last May. Of course with the added incentive of going straight to British number 2 should he get there
Does indicate that Chris Eaton's three set Q1 loss to Rieschick was probably a pretty good performance.
Certainly a real chance for James to get that SF spot. With that, as was said, comes the GB No 2 spot. Really hope that's not a poisoned chalice
Without sounding too much of a geek, hopefully Greg is working on the mental side of things with James. Things like being British No2 should not matter. He also needs to realise how much Rieschick will put into the game and up his intensity accordingly.
I'm sure he will do, but the temptation is to look through the draw and think you have got an easy passage through. That is when you get beat. Taylor Dent does this in challengers quite a lot, he can lose to anybody with a pulse some days.
