Pity for Chris Decent looking effort, but still ultimately three rounds short of collecting any ranking points.
Whether, particularly with so few wins of late, he'd not be better trying to get ranking points in futures on reasonably fast hard courts back in the UK I'd suggest is very open to arguement.
But then Chris's schedule for a long time has more than slightly puzzled me.
Or is he almost giving up on singles too and this is some doubles mission ?
I think he performs at challenger level better anyway.
Has had quite a hard time with injury, hence the layoff since Istanbul? Looked to be coming back into some sort of form in Segovia as well :/
As for his schedule i assume the courts are pretty quick there- two challenger events followed by an ATP quals event if he gets in, sounds pretty logical.

So in the 2nd set, Soeda has lost just one point in serve and has got to deuce on Josh's serve every time, I can't see Josh holding out much longer ...

He won 6 of his 9 service games to love and the other 3 to 15 while breaking Josh three times in the most important parts of the two sets and taking him to deuce 4 more times.
A pity, since the only other time they played (in Cremona earlier this year), Soeda won in two t/bs, the first going to 19-17, which made me think it might be close this time.

James due first up tomorrow on Court 5 at 10 am local time ( 4 am BST ), so hopefully good news to wake up to.
Fly in the ointment as steve said could be the weather. The latest I see for both tomorrow morning and afternoon is : Widely scattered thunderstorms, mostly cloudy.
Russel had Thai version of Deli Belly by the looks of it. Hard to celebrate but very happy none the less, the draw opens up with that and becomes another chance to notch up a worthwhile points score.
