Shame for Anna, but if the weather is the same as it was when I visited Guangzhou then it would be uber humid and sticky and no fun to play tennis in. Hopefully she'll stick around and play doubles there?

Katie tweeted: "Hotel here in Guangzhou is very nice, but I can't understand why there's a sauna...all you have to do is go outside to get the same effect." which bears out your point. Given that Anna is down for a big challenger in China at the end of the month (and presumably Tour qualifying in Korea next week) I'm confident she will hang around for the doubles

Anna doing here, Seoul and then Delhi

It rained all day so matches went indoors. Anna struggles quite a lot in tour qualies for some reason.

Tough draw for Katie, from what I saw in New York Sania seems to have found her mojo!

Yes, in July Sania would have been a good draw, but no longer.

Remarkably Anna is not only in the doubles but seeded - but it helps if you pick a grand slam winner as your partnersmile

R1

(4)Smith/Yan (GBR/CHN) v Sun/Zhang (CHN)
Groth/Peers (AUS) v Gallovits/Mirza (ROU/IND)

No British interest tomorrow

Scoreboard has frozen at that now. Keeps doing that it seems.

Not sure if the scoreboard has crashed or if they have gone off for rain again. But its 0-40 on katie's serve either way.

Mirza won 6-3 1-6 6-2 - a bit of fight at the end, given that Katie was 0-4 *0-40 down, but a bit too late.
