Ha, the joys of having about 2 weeks of absolutely nothing to do until Uni starts. I should go again tomorrow if I wake up in time.
Getting on the wrong train in the morning added about an hour to my journey so I completely missed the 1st set of Milton v Slabba. The 2 sets I did see where a lot closer than 6-2 6-2, a lot of games went to deuce but Milton was just too consistent, getting everything back until the error came. Slabba was getting more and more frustrated and was going for ridiculous winners in the end that where never going to go in. When he lost he launched the ball miles over the fence close to the main road so someone might have had a surprise with a random tennis ball landing next to them.
Willis v Cox went on for ages and was getting pretty heated at times. During the 1st set tie-break Willis questioned a winner from Dan that landed right on the line. Dan wasn't best pleased and told him it was miles in and they threw a few mild insults at each other, Willis saying "don't be an idiot Coxy". After he lost the set Dan kicked both his chairs over and was pretty lucky the rain came early in the 2nd as he was pretty angry. Willis should have definitely won in 2, one of the match points he had a wide open court but once he gave the set away he completely collapsed in the 3rd. More words were said at the net after the match but I'm sure it will all be forgotten soon.
Didn't see too much of Evo's match but it was comfortable throughout and the result was never in question.
Thanks for the report. It doesn't look like Willis vs. Cox was the classic that I had assumed it to be, by looking at the score updates.
Looking ahead, Cox will surely start as a favourite against Coco, whom he beat a few weeks back. I expect Evo to beat Milton, so hopefully it'll be another El Derby in the finals.
Evo's match with Josh should be an interesting indicator of where Evo is at after his recent little break. Josh has of course been in pretty good form lately.
SF: Daniel Evans (Gbr) bt Joshua Milton (Gbr) 6-4 6-3 SF: Daniel Cox (Gbr) bt Rudy Coco (Fra) 7-5 6-2,
Evans hasn't dropped a set so far this week and the 6-4 against Josh has been the closest he has come to losing one while Cox has dropped 2 sets and had a few close shaves. Not that I expect that to have any baring on the final.
It does seem however that Evans decision to take a while out was a good one.
Lets hope that Dan Evans has refocused himself, because he still has the time to make an impact on the game. I mean the Rochus brothers are both small and both of them have been regular fixures in the top 100/150 for a number of years.
If he is back because he wants to progress and make a good career for himself, then good things may happen.
Surprisingly (to me), they've only played each other twice in Futures before, both in Scotland in 2008 with Evo winning the 1st and 3rd sets.
Btw Brits will have hoovered up 44 of the 56 ranking points available here (2 of which were impossible to get because 2 of the R1 matches had no Brits in them) after the spectacular success of the 'Cumberland decoy' Of the 10 overseas player, only Coco (6), Grassi (2), Bayet (2), Rosenzweig (1) and Marfia (1) will go away with any points.
