Week 35 - US Open men's main draw

L128: (4) Andy Murray WR 4 v Lukas Lacko (SCK) WR 72

H2H 0-0 but of course Colin Fleming thrashed Lacko 1 & 2 in the Glasgow Future semis last year.

Apparently Andy could meet Stani in R3, Querrey in R4, Berdbrain in the QFs and Rafa in the semis - would probably have been better to meet Fed in the semis and get him out of the way before the Final, but not too bad a draw really.

Draw as Steven described it, and Ramirez Hidalgo or Dustin Brown second round.

And just to say I've never seen anyone as lucky with draws as Albert Montanes.

Fair chance Isner won't play as well

Not a bad draw at all that  smile

Yes, probably I'd too prefer chance of Fed in semi but that's way down the line and Mr Always Reaches Grand Slam Semis ( which was a hell of a run  ) hasn't done it the last two times.

could be interesting to see Andy vs Dustin Brown in round 2, what with the rumours of Dustin wanting to play for GB.

Not a bad draw although Berdych wouldn't have been my pick of QF opponents.

Elena is first up on Court 17 on Monday at 4 pm BST. Anne (and indeed Muzza) play on Tuesday.

Just a question re steven's post in the women's section, is it somehow known for sure Andy will be playing on Tuesday ?

The bottom half of the men's draw is scheduled for Monday and into Tuesday and the top half ( which Andy is in ) has its first round scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.  This is normal US Open schedule, it has to be different  smile

I thought they completed R1 on day 2 at the USO ... if not, then no it's not certain.

With my luck I'm betting on Wednesday, as then I will only see 2 of his matches before I go on holiday next Sunday - if it were to be Tuesday I would have a chance at 3. Darn it, when I agreed to go on holiday at this time at the start of the year I was going by last year's dates, and I would only have missed the final!

For future reference, the USO always starts a week before Labor day, which means a week before the first Monday in September, which in turns means it starts on the last Monday in August, which is the late summer bank holiday Monday over here.

That is, of course, until they decide to be a pain and have a Sunday start ...

I was aware in the past that the men's first round was spread over Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday day session ( I think like a 24 / 24 / 16 matches split ) so players in the second half to be played can play Tuesday or Wednesday.

Confirmed again this year :

Just so folk know that Muzza could be playing Tuesday or Wednesday ( day session ).  Guess we won't know which until Tuesday's schedule confirmed.

Hotter temperatures forecast for the first week than was the case in Cincinnati around 34C in the shade. Hopefully Andy will have sorted out his heat exhaustion problems as you can guarantee he won't be given the night session spot.

Ha ha, you've decided they've got some policy to frazzle Andy have you, Phil ?  smile

Seriously it could go either way. Last year he played the men's night match in both his 1st and 3rd round matches.

Maybe bit odds against in the first round this time, especially given his tie doesn't look hugely attractive on the face of it.

Mad, please note , assuming Andy gets through that his 2nd and 3rd round matches will be on Friday and Sunday respectively, no matter which day his 1st round match is ( well if the matches are played to schedule ).  Top half matches are all due to be played on the same day after the first round.  I don't know if you were maybe thinking that he might play these rounds earlier if his 1st round was on Tuesday.
