Three of the MDWCs and one QWC at Biella have been named and none of them are potential threats to Bally's top 50 position.
I noticed that but I want to make sure we're looking at the worst case scenario so as not to get caught out later, so I'll wait until the Biella main draw comes out before assuming too much.

However, she has 500 coming off from last years USO, but only reached R2 this year. The table already takes into account that Oudin will drop a long way (she's provisional WR 73) - I showed her below Elena when I first set it up, but I have since removed anyone who went out before the end of R2 and wasn't close enough to potentially overtake if they played in Biella.
Btw the Chinese press has apparently been reporting that Peng injured her wrist in a doubles match last night and might not even be able to play against Petkovic.

It seems that Peng has withdrawn... this is showing on today's schedule now:
Andrea Petkovic(GER) def. Shuai Peng(CHN) walkover
Awful way for it to happen, but does this mean Bally is realistically WR 49 now?
It's virtually certain to mean she's top 50 - Dominguez Lino, who has just started her R3 match against Cibulkova can still overtake but would need to reach the semis and while 3 of the WCs for Biella have been named, it's unclear who the fourth is (unless you only get 3 MD WCs in 100Ks - I can't find a rule about it), so it's just about possible, if very improbable that two players could still overtake.

Cibulkova has just won 0 & 1 - I'm now confident that Elena will definitely be in the top 50 on Monday week
WR 49 if none of her chasers gets the last WC at Biella and assuming the USO start figures I originally used (from TBE on tennisforum, who's usually v reliable but like all of us who do lots of stats, capable of getting the odd thing wrong from time to time) were correct.

Interestingly should Elena indeed make it to WR 49 come Monday week and break into the top 50 it would leave her just one place shy of Anne's CH of 48. I imagine there may be quite a bit of motivation for Elena to get to at least WR 47!
Just as the men's Final finished, the new WTA rankings finally went up and it confirms what we've known for over a week - Elena Baltacha is our latest top 50 player, in at WR 49!
