Not sure it was really that strange for a Katie match, but she does manage to battle through quite a lot of them
And yes, in Q1 getting the win and these 40 points, especially when defending 40, is so important.
Doi, her next opponent, clearly on decent form winning 6 - 0 6 - 0, though the first set points were 31 - 18 so score a bit tough, i.e. opponent got an average of 3 points a game so must have been quite a few deuces and lost by 13 points in 6 games so one game to 15, all the rest to 30 or more.
Maybe not too surprisingly after that, she won the second set games much more easily with points 25 - 7.

Katie beat Doi 6-1 3-6 6-3 in the QFs of the Tokyo $100K+H last year, but Doi is still young (18) and no doubt improving fast - her scoreline today against Foretz is a bit scary!
It'll probably make a change for Katie to be taller than her opponent though

Cav 2nd on C6 @ about 17.30 BST, similarly Hev 2nd on C12, while Laura plays 5th on C4, so not before about 22.00 BST even if the rain holds off tomorrow.

Shame for Mel as if she had of made the trip due to late withdrawals she would have made the draw. Both Cav and Heather should finish today as they are both second on. Weather is still a bit iffy so Laura needs alot of luck to finish as she is scheduled fifth on.
Weather is supposed to pick up from today so hopeful it will be a bit smoother for the other Brits after today, assuming Katie gets company in R2.
Shame to hear about Mel but I think starting smaller would be best. I just hope she can finally shake off the injury and start benefiting from her fitness block. Her and Katie have been top 100 and it would be great to see them knocking on the door again
