Ah pity I was only able to follow for a little bit last night, actually where she had turned the tide during the second set so I thought there was a chance of coming in to good news.
Looks to me just really stats wise that overall she was just outplayed. Yes, the service stas aren't too good, but not horrendous really for Katie with 59% first service and 7 double faults overall spread through the sets, certainly stats she can and no doubt has won with in the past. Her service points won are never likely to be hugely better than her receiving points won.
No, it looks in play she has just been outplayed / outbattled, whatever.
Losing a FQR is very disappointing and the enormity of that match should be reflected in the WTA points. Thankfully in a way it is not, she has already earned 50 points ( 10 more than she was defending ) and winning the FQR would have given her just 10 points more.
Still would have been good achievement and a great confidence boost to have made the main draw and it is possible she might have got a good draw and a real chance of getting a win there, though odds would have been against that.
On the positive side she does look to be playing a bit better than a few months ago and hopefully she can keep her level up or ideally improve further as she has a lot of points to defend in the next couple of months.
A lot of these points came from Tokyo and Osaka last year in October at around the time of this year's Commonwealth Games where Katie is entered. Hopefully if, as seems, there is a clash she can make up points elsewhere. I'd be for foregoing the Commonwealth Games, but I guess Katie sees more value in Commonwealth Games tennis than I do
Not a big fan of the Commonwealth games either as a tennis competition. If it was that prestigious Andy and Stosur would have entered.
Katie despite defeat here is nearly back to her best which is someone ranked just outside the top 100. As Indy says alot of points to defend so it was imperative to start with 50 points here ( a net increase of 10). Katie won't make the step up into the top 100 on a permanent basis unless she finds a more effective serve.
Bookies price up Laura's match similar to yesterday 58-42 favourite. If Laura plays as well as in the first two rounds she'll probably just about be good enough, anything else will probably see her lose. One bit of positive information is that despite Vives good current form her record at the US open is pretty poor, and her form so far this week hasn't been that impressive. Laura will also have a 10in height advantage as well, as Vives is only 5ft 1.5in tall.

Done. You can't make links live in the Quick Reply box, when you're in there, you need to click on the advanced editor button and them put the link in, or if you've already pasted it into the quick reply box, go to the end of it and press (for example) space after it.

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Shes only qualified once in 5 attempts, but when she did she beat another talented teen - 15 yo Vaidisova who was ranked 126 at the time, at the same stage shes playing Laura in.
I feel this match is very much Lauras to win. Her raw power and great angles should help penetrate the spaniard if she can stay patient enough. Lost a heartbreaker last year so mentally may be a little off, but if she can settle quickly and is well advised on tactics I see no way she can be hurt.
Watching how she played against Kvitova, who is similar to Laura in style, Im hopeful for 3 MD women:
I'm trying but obviously not correctly as it still doesn't work - could you sort of 'spell it out' using the link I used - I really would like to 'get' this . Thanks
Or, if you just wish to post the link without your own description, put [ url ] in front of the url and [ /url ] after it (without any spaces at all inbetween)
Edit - grr, until I put extra spaces inside the brackets it transformed my instructions into a link itself!

Thank you RBBOT & Madeline - for taking me a huge leap further in my online career !!!! (I always wondered how they did that on Twitter) I'm going to practice now on a practice board away from here and stop clogging up this thread.
Am so looking forward to THE BIG MATCH tonight - if the same Laura shows up as is in those pics her diminutive opponent won't stand a chance. But we shall see.... I am a little concerned that the later start time will allow time for nerves to build up.

Ah I used to be able to write in HTML but gave up when due to the passing of years type got inexplicably smaller.
I would love to see Laura qualify here. The boost you get from having an entitlement to be there in a Grand Slam must be astonishing.
I really don't want to see Laura be another talented Junior who doesn't make the transition to seniors. And though young in British terms she's not when you look at the age and accomplishments of some of the other girls.

Whilst I know we constantly ( rightly ) don't want to put too much pressure on Laura, let's not pretend that so far she may be like many juniors of the past ( certainly not British ) or that there are many others currently in other countries of similar ages and accomplishments in ranking or the players they have beaten.
There have been yes some really young talents from some other countries in the past, and many who have really shown themselves at the age Laura has have gone on to really make it.
I looked at the rankings at the beginning of the month and posted how of these in the world born on 1992 or later, Laura stood 6th in the rankings and was well clear of any other 1994 born. That is 6th when considering the 2 years ahead of her as well, and when Laura's allowed tournament schedule is fairly limited.
Yes, don't put pressure on her but let's not hide away from the fact that she is indeed an exceptional talent with really great potential, and that remains so when you look round the globe.
Yes, for many reasons she might not fully develop as she and others would want but hey let's enjoy what she is and be alowed to ponder about what she may become.
Anyway, I really hope she makes it tonight, though no disaster if she doesn't. She is facing a pretty good player.
