Actually I started to feel quite sorry for Dokic and glad she held her last close service game and made Laura serve it out. That was an excellent test for Laura's nerve and she passed with flying colours. Better to win that way I felt.
I was quietly optimistic for Laura here. Although Jelena's recent form was a worry she has a poor track record in Grand Slam qualifiers, on the few occasions she has played them in recent years, possibly because of feeling that she should be in the main draw. A very important win given her ranking is just outside Oz Open qualifying level, with points to defend and lack of tournaments to do so this year.
Great to come in to see this win for Laura, I had thought odds were against it.
Good to see the serve going well and in particular just one DF in the tighter conclusive second set.
The now is probably rightly the most important thing to Laura but with her 50 points to defend here plus 30 more re later tournaments from last year, like David I was a bit concerned re how her ranking would hold for the Aussie Open, particularly when she drew Dokic in the 1st Q round and risked not getting at least the tasty 40 points for winning QR1.
