QF: (5/Q) Alex Slabinsky WR 548 beat (1) Dawid Olejniczak (POL) WR 415 by 4 & 4 biggrin

SF: (5/Q) Alex Slabinsky WR 548 v (Q) Robert Godlewski (POL) WR 1534 (CH 507 in 2006)

Just one more won would give Slabba a bagel against Poles so far in this tournament - he's bashed 2 Poles in qualifying and 3 in the main draw! smile.gif

Great to see Slabba build on recent signs of better form, and it would be really good to polish of on or two more of these Poles.

Slabba's into the final.

He crushed Godlewski 6-4, 6-2.

Decent shot at his 2nd title of the year. What will this take his ranking up to ?

Wow, well done Slabba! biggrin

Today's win will take him up to 58 points as at the end of the USO - the only player on 58 points at the moment is WR 500, so hopefully Alex will  be top 500 again with nothing to defend until 1 November.

Good stuff Slabba!

SF: (5/Q) Alex Slabinsky WR 548 def (Q) Robert Godlewski (POL) WR 1534 (CH 507 in 2006) 6-4 6-2

F:(5/Q) Alex Slabinsky WR 548 v (6) Marcin Gawron (POL) WR 490 (CH 275 in 2009)

A very stiff ask this - Gawron has reached finals in 3 of his last 4 events

Yes, Gawron has won 15 of his last 17 matches, but when they met in Adana (TUR) in April, Slabba won 2-6 6-2 6-3! smile.gif

Coincidentally, they are both over 200 places of their career highs as well - Slabba is WR 548 with a CH of 266 in 2008 and Gawron is WR 490 with a CH of 275 in 2009.

Remember Slabba has a CH of 266  smile

And as I said before, it's great to see him beginning to show such better form after a long time of clearly playing to a level outside the top 500.

But yes, I would say it does look a pretty tough task at the moment and it will be interesting to see how he does.

How come Slabba is ranked 5th of a WR of 548 but his opponent is 6th with WR 490????

One of Gawron's Finals that Smidster mentioned went on the rankings on Monday but the seedings were based on the previous Monday.

Slabba's recent success has mostly been on clay, strange i thought he was more of a fastcourter, no problem anyway and good luck tomorrow

Slabba's clay game has always been quite strong - he grew up training on clay at sutton. He's got the big weapons from the back of the court and moves well on the surface.

Some of the indoor tournaments can be a bit of a lottery cause there are so many guys out there with huge serves so often it's better to head for the clay to pick up points
